Hi Folks
Met with Pat this morning. Arrived bout 6 or so and was on the water somewhere around 6:30. Water temp was 63 at launch but warmed up to 70 before long. Dont know what the air temp was but I needed a jacket the whole time.
Took a minute to find willing fish . My first small mouth came in 10 ft of water and was caught on a perch colored crank bait. Caught one more within minutes of that one and no more wanted to play with that crank. A bit later one ate the pale perch jig
dressed with a piece of worm. That one was in 17 ft of water. My last one came in 3 ft of water on the tried and true rc killer with a piece of worm. Was starting to get a head ache so I called it a early day. Was a beautiful morning.

[#0000ff]'Twas a purty day. Flat calm all morning. A couple of ski boats on the lake but they stayed well away from us tubers.

[#0000ff]Air temp was right at 50 degrees at launch. Cool to the touch...but nice after the past couple of weeks in the valley.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I started out on a perch search...both for the table and some for future bait on other waters. Didn't get my first perch until almost an hour after the 6:30 launch. Saw a few individuals here and there, but no schools. Did see some schools of young of the year perchlets but I did not work them over much.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Went south to a big rocky point and molested a few bitty bass. Big whoop. No more perch so I motored back up to the area I had seen potential and refined my technique. Started picking up some more perch and a couple more smallies...my biggest might have been 10 inches or so. About the same size as my biggest perch for the day.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Fishing was slow and the bite delicate. But I did manage to get a few 8-10 inch perch for some scampi and noodles. And I kept another half dozen half-footers for bait duty. Almost all my bites from perch were in 14-16 feet of water...offshore from some willows growing along the bank. That's likely what was drawing in the perchlets and the perchlets were drawing in the predatory larger fish.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]When I got back to the gravel take-out spot next to the ramp it looked like the bottom of the lake was moving. Clouds of mini perchlets were swarming all over the place. No wonder the fishing was a bit slower than we had hoped. When I filleted the perch later each had the remnants of a "perch parfait" in its innards.

Sounds like you gentleman had a pleasant morning, it's always nice not to be molested by the power squadron. That is becoming more and more rare, I think the power squadron is becoming more and more aggressive as time goes on.

"Sounds like you gentleman had a pleasant morning,"

[#0000FF]Don't call me a gentleman or I'll sue for slander.[/#0000FF]

Well Pat you wouldn't like me to call you the opposite of that would you? Actually I don't think I know what the opposite of Gentleman is but I could get creative.

Pat, with the kids back in school and the weather on Friday looking good in the morning, I am going to make a trip to Starvy. Winds will be 6 mph or less up until noon and I expect to have a limit by then. Famous last words I just hope I have not jinxed myself. If your of a mind to make it out this way Friday morning I think we will pretty much have RG to ourselves.

[#0000FF]'Preciate the invite...even a belated one. But it will be at least a couple of weeks before I can get back over there. I'll stay in touch and we can plan something.[/#0000FF]

[#0000FF]Limit should be easy if you can find out where they planted it this week. Har.

Sounds good, I am camping at Starvation memorial day weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) with my family and plan on doing some fishing. I think I am going to do some night trolling and get into some bigger fish.
