I decided to try the hailstone area for the first time. Got there about 11:00. The slush was about 12 inches deep, covered by about8 inches of snow. Foot traffic was very slow, and my boots went up only about 12 inches. It snowed the entire time I was there. Perservering in these conditions surely means that I would be rewarded with a good bite, right?......uh, no. The first two places I tried (past the buoys in 40-45 ft. of water,) I didn't get squat. Not even a bite. The conditions made too much exploration problematic but finally, I tried by the docks just before giving up. There, my fortunes improved, and I got into the perch enough to take home a meals worth (20+). Most were on the small side, but a few good ones. nightcrawler or waxworm on a finkie below a flasher. No trout this time for me. One other group I talked to had one trout and one perch among 4 anglers. The conditions are such that one may want to try somewhere else right now.
