#1
SO HEADING UP SUNDAY WITH MY BUDDY AND FATHER IN LAW TO RELAX HIM FOR A SURGERY MONDAY. TWO QUESTIONS.

ICEFLYS AND FLASHERS, HOW DO YOU RIG THEM UP INLINE AND WHAT DO YOU USE, DO I JUST REMOVE THE HOOKS FROM A CASTING SPOON AND TIE THE FLY ON THE END?

SECOND HOW DO I GET TO ROCK CLIFFS?

THANKS LATERS,

What I usally do is tie about 12" of leader between my flasher and fly. you can take the hooks off a kastmaster, but I buy them at hooked, they have several diffrant types.

to get to rockcliff, take I80 east to the Heber exit (us.40) then take the kamas exit when you get to kamas turn right toward francis when you come to the stop sign turn right its about 3 or 4 miles the entrance will be on the right. its $4.00 to get in. if the snow isnt to bad you can drive all the way to the water.

I could be wrong, but it seems a lot futher to me to drive through Kamas to get to Rock Cliff. I get on Highway 40 and drive past Jordanelle. Turn left at the stoplight at the bottom of the hill after Jordanelle dam (this is the first stoplight that you come to on Highway 40). You will drive past Jordanelle, and see the entrance to Rock Cliff on your left.

I have had great success tying a rat finkie [ice fly] on my line first then tie leader to the hook by the barb and adding the cast master about 12" to 4' below the ice fly. This way you feel the bottom and know when to close the bail. When the ice fly is 4' above the cast master [with one hook not a treble on the flasher] the trout that are suspended off of the bottom will take the ice fly [or a paddle bug or small tube jig.]Always tip with bait and keep it fresh. Move around if you are not catching fish. I would cross over to the south side close to the shore to start. STAY away from the crowds. DKSRenegade

I have rigged up several ways, but I now like to tie a small "teardrop" ice jig to a swivel. This is a very small spoon/jig with color on one side and silver metal on the other. This provides my flash. I then string a leader of about 16 inches off of the swivel and put on my rat finkie. I put a split shot in the middle on the leader. I bait both hooks. At Jordanelle and rockport where you get both a good perch and trout bite, the trout will often be caught on the flasher jig as they are often suspended, and the perch will always be caught on the bottom lure, as they hang to the bottom. This set-up allows coverage of a larger area in the water column and one can experiment with different baits when after trout. Good luck this week.

GENTLEMEN, I HATE TO BE A PAIN IN THE ARSE, BUT I WILL BE. CAN ANY OF YOU POST A QUICK PICTURE OF WHAT THIS SETUP LOOKS LIKE, I HAVE NEVER EVEN ICE FISHED BEFORE, ALTHOUGH THE OTHERS IN MY FAMILY SEEM TO THINK I AM A GURU...OF SORTS....BUT ANYWAY, I HAVE TO LOOK LIKE I KNOW WHAT IM DOING, MY BUDDY IS COMING ALONG AS WELL AND I GOTTA LOOK GOOD. I THINK I CAN USE A BUNCH OF OLD SPOONS I HAVE, SHOULD I CLIP A SNAP THROUGH THE SPOONS AND THEN TIE ON THE LEADER? THEN USE A CHROME SWIVEL TO ATTACH TO THE FLASHER, OR SHOULD I USE A SWEDISH PIMPLE WITH THE ICE FLY TIED THREE FEET OVER IT WITH LEADER FROM MY SWIVEL? I THINK THAT IS WHAT YOU ARE ALL TELLING ME BUT I AM NOT VERY GOOD AT DRWING PICS, I AM A VISUAL GUY SO A POC WOULD HELP OUT....IF NOT THAN THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FOR ALREADY GIVING ME GREAT INFO. I SAID IT ONCE AND ILL SAY IT AGAIN, YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME!!

LATERS,
