Are any of you familiar with split ring sizes?. I need to replace the treble hooks on a Frenzy 4" crank and have no idea what size split rings to buy. The hooks are #6 trebles. I was going to order some, and realized they came in sizes #1 through #5 in Bass Pro. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

[cool][blue]I use a lot of split rings, on different types of lures. The bad news is that there does not seem to be any industry standard. The size 3 I get from Barlows are the same size as the size 1 from Netcraft, etc. I guess the key is to standardize on one source and keep track of what works best. If you only need a few, most good tackletoriums have small quantities you can buy, after making sure they are of the right size and quality.[/blue]
[#0000ff]Have you tried any of the new oval split rings? Looks like they might solve some problems for some applications. Most of the online and catalog outlets are selling them now and the prices are dropping.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]If you buy from Netcraft, I would say a good size 2 or three splitring, in stainless or nickle, would suffice for a size 6 treble. For larger lures and hooks, go up to a size 5. My opinion. By the way, for bulk split rings, Jann's netcraft is a good source. Go to Bass Pro or Barlows for the best quality on your magnum lures and big fish.[/#0000ff]

I was hoping you would reply Tube. Thanks. I was looking at those black anodized oval split rings in particular. They look sweet. I don't need a quantity as the Frenzy 4" original has been discontinued by Berkely (bummer). I bought out the local supply. They are the hot ticket for trolling for calicos, sandies and halibut. Unbelievable in the yak in the salt. However, they come with cheapo hooks and split rings that must be replaced or you get reefed by the bigger butts (don't go there LMAO). You have any hook suggestions for the #6 trebles for the salt?. I'm thinking the Owner 2x strong with the nuclear points. If you come across a source for the 4" Frenzys, let me know. I guess I'll try the #2 split rings. Thank you my friend. Later

[cool][blue]One of life's "ponderosities" (for me) has always been why lure manufacturers spend a ton on flashy paint jobs and big bucks advertising, and then finish them off with lousy split rings and hooks.[/blue]
[#0000ff]Most savvy fisherfolk look over their new lures and replace the poor hardware before losing a prize fishy. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Owner makes good hooks. On size 6, if you don't want to spend the money on Owner, Eagle Claw makes a decent stainless treble (253 I think). Like most "production" hooks, they benefit from a few strokes of the sharpener before using, but they are strong. Most fish you will hang on size 6 hooks will not be too big for the Eagle Claws. Can you say "Set your drag".[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Sorry, don't have any help for you on the Frenzy's. Now if you're talking a "feeding frenzy"...as in WFO yellowtail...I might be tempted to help you figure it out.[/#0000ff]
