Balance it out for her. Loose some of the cheap ice rods and get more fly and spinning rods. The secret is to end up with one or two less total rods in your collection for now. [The ice season is winding down now anyway!!!!]Work on the reels later [Fathers Day, Birthday etc. DKS

NO SUCH THING AS TOO MANY POLES!!!

I only have 6 spinning, 3 casting, 1 downrigger, 5 ice. I need to replace three spinning reels and 1 7' med-hvy fast tip spinning rod this year. I'm sure I will buy a couple new ones to boot.

You should get quite a response from the board of members having many, many more than us.

You are just getting started my friend. I only have about 12 ultra lights, 14 trout poles, 16 bass poles, 6 flyrods, 16 cat rods, and 18 ocean rods. I'm OK for right now but if I see a special, I may buy a couple of extras. Have a good day and make sure you hit the tackle shop on the way back from fishing.

By the way, my collection is small compared to what others have so I am in no way trying to brag. My partner on the CA board left behind close to 2500 poles in Japan at one time.

I read that a man can only have as many poles as a woman has pairs of shoes.

check out these numbers. i have 10 spinning rods from various weights and lengths, 3 medium action casting rods. 2 trolling rods, 2 medium heavy jig sticks for the big macks at the gorge. one fly rod, one 5 piece spinning rod for backpacking and at least 6 ice fishing rod, most of which have been custom built. now on to the reels-- i have 6 spinning reels for everything from perch to albacore tuna; 5 casting reels; 1 deep sea level wind; one fly reel; oh yeah and one spin caster. and i am only 18. i still have a ways to go.

If you think about it, a saying about guns fits this situation really well. I don't know who said it but it goes something like this:

"I probably have more than I need, but I will never have more than I want!"

It has gotten to the point with my wife that I have to keep a separate account for my "big boy" toys so she doesn't see the checks written to the various stores that specialize in all the good things a growing boy needs[Wink]

You ain't seen nothin yet. I'm only 15, and I've got 2 fly, 1 baitcaster, 1 ice rod and around 20-25 spinning rods(i lost count years ago). My parents don't care, though. They like fishing as much as me!

You have another thinking coming, if you think you got too many... consider this, a guy that I know has a bedroom loaded with boxes of crankbaits, plastics, jigs, hooks, lures of all kinds, hundreds of poles and reels in his walk in closet. His bedroom has 6 large portable shelves in the middle of the room like a library full of fishing equipment. A working desk for repairing and making lures etc.

Of course, that room is definitely off limits to the kids, and.... the wife!

I look up to this person and hope to do the same thing someday...

I don't doubt that Tube Dude has a similiar set up...[laugh]

Get a boat. with rod cases that lock that way she has no idea how many you actually have.

now that you mention it I dont know how many I have I know I have a fly rod and a large troller and I think at least 6 spinning setups. whenever I take my boat out I take at least 4 so all the others are sitting in my boat or garage for when I need them.

C'mon Gar, It's not really the number of rods or what kind they are. It's all in how you use them![Wink]

Last count for me was 50 something, from heavy trolling rods to ultralights. I guess I just can't pass up good deals from Big 5, Parks Sportsman, K-mart, Wal-mart, Sportsman's Warehouse, and Gart's. It's scary when the sporting goods manager from Wal-mart knows you on a first name basis and lets you in on the next big clearance sale. The last time I was at Gart's in Orem the cashier said, "What, no fishing tackle this time?" My last batch of new rods and reels were mostly for bassin' and catfishing. My wife says I need to get rid of some so watch out for a big sale from me.

[Wink]Hey, how many pairs of shoes does your wife have? Chances are a whole lot more than you have fishing poles. Does she really need one or more pair of shoes for each outfit? I hardly doubt it. Most likely she has multiple pair of white, black, brown, blue, green, etc. shoes. Bring this up and make a pact not to hassle her over her Imelda Marcos shoe collection if she quites hassling you over your fishing poles. Good luck.

LOL!!,, Man my eye's are shot.. I misread the subject title to be ,, to many holes..... I was going to say you dont have enough holes until your arm cant twist another turn, or, the auger and the spare fuel can are both out of fuel.. LOL!

To many pole's?,, hmmm maybe,, but only if the wife finds em..[Wink] For instance,, I have 6 ice poles,, but only take 3 and the ugly stick normally..

you can never have enough poles, when the grandkids come to visit, 16 of them it takes a lot of rods an d reels and tackle to outfit a crew like that, and if them cant get to go fishing with gramps they ;have not had a good vacation. To much water not enough time.
