New sonar and ice conditions
#1
Hey I just got my new "Ray Jefforson" flasher beeper sonar. Well at least new to me. Its an older sonar from the early 1980's I guess. I got it off of ebay for twenty bucks[cool], not bad, hard to go wrong at that price.

Well I want to take it out this sunday and give it a test. I was thinking of heading up to Jordanelle but was wondering about the ice conditions with all the warm weather. I haven't been up there in a few weeks so if anyone's been up there let me know what the conditions are like either at Hailstone or the Rock cliffs area.[unsure]

Also any insite on using flasher/sonars would be appreciated as this is my first venture into "high tech" fish hunting.

Thanks in advance. I'll let you know how the flasher thing works out.

I WILL BE AT THE ROCK CLIFFS AREA LOOK FOR 3 GUYS WITH A SEVEN FOOT LONG ORANGE BODY SLED, LIKE THE ONES THE SKI PATROL PULLS BEHIND SNOWMOBILES, AND YOU WILL FIND ME I WILL BE THE SHORTER YOUNGER GUY. I DONT HAVE A FISH FINDER SO YOU ARE MORE THAN WECOME TO FIRE THAT BAD BOY UP OVER OUR HOLES AND SEE WHATS SHAKIN DOWN THERE!! LOL. SEE YOU ON THE ICE.

I had a patient yesterday who had a Rat Finkee stuck in his finger that was fishing up at Jordanelle yesterday. He said he was fishing near the boat ramp, in about 10 feet of water. He did really well for a bunch of perch, and also put a few trout on the ice. He said ice conditions were still really good, but you needed to get off the foot trails. He said that the slush from old footprints was frozen and difficult to navigate, but once you got off of the path, it was really easy walking. He said perch were hitting just off the bottom, on almost every drop through the hole. He didn't give me much info on the trout though. Good luck with your new flasher, I don't know much about them, but I've seen them work well on the ice. Fishingwaters has a nice flasher, drop him a PM and he might have some good suggestions.

Yeah sometimes Ebay has a steal to be had.. I got not one but two Binford,, opps,, I mean Eagle 6100's off Ebay last fall.. Whats more,, and this is the part you may find interesting and usefull,, the person I picked them up from also sent an older flasher sonar dept/fishfinder how-to mannual witch dont even pertain to a Eagle 6100 series.. It from Lowrance and called "New Guide to The fun of Electronic Fishing". It was published in 1975 but I figure the basics are probably the same for the unit you have. If your interested let me know..

Whats more,, if anyone has info on a Eagle 6100 series I'd be interested in it.. I know all the basic things about them due to the fact I had one moons ago but have forgotten some of the finer details...

The fishing boat I sold last spring had a 1980 Lowrance flasher unit on it along with a Humminbird. I had the exact same booklet and passed it on to the new owner. A real "blast from the past".

I love ebay have bought a dozen rods and several reals off of ebay all for a great price. 25 bucks sounds great. I saw that sonar on there but already have a fish finder so didn't bid.
