Important Mantua question (for our-safety)
#1
Was Planning on taking a Bud with me for some ice fishing at Mantua thursday, but heard ice was unsafe? More specifiacally I heard that the ice around the shore for like 6-10 feet was unsafe/thin/melting. My question is has anyone been there recently that can attest to ice conditions off shore. My thinking is by using waders can you wade out a ways to get on safe ice(?) is the ice still thick enough for ice fishing or am I just not being smart?

I went to Mantua on sat. 6th and there were about five people out on the ice fishing. The access point on the south dike was bad so I decided I didn't want to wade in the water to get to the solid ice which looked to be out about 20 feet. It is shallow there and the guys I could see on the ice had on waders. The ice three weeks ago was 15" thick, so it probably still safe onve you get onto it. There was open water for 70-80 yards where the creek comes in. Lots of Luck. Acey
