Millcreek(S.L.C)
#1
I fished the Millcreek from just above 500E. down to the end of the park. caught one brown 12" [cool]and had a couple follows but spooked when they got to close. had one on for about 3 seconds that felt pretty decent but it got off. It still amazes me that a fish can wiggle off of a lure with two treble hooks on it!

If you don't mind informing, what lure were you using? And how do you get to mill creek? I live in the area but still don't know where it is. Need to explore new horizons, lol getting tired of willow pond.

Thanks [Smile]

Starts in the valley at the mouth of Millcreek Canyon at 38th south and above wasatch flows all the way down to the Jordan River in the middle of the valley, stays in between around 55th S. to 20th S. and all over in between. Classic Urban fishing. Have fun and throw'em back.

I was using a blue and silver rebel minnow about 1 1/2 " long.Catchall is just a little wrong with the location,"sorry catchall"[Wink]. The Millcreek does start at abot 3800S. up into the canyon and runs west in between 3900S. and 3300S. until it reaches 700E. It then crosses 3300S. and runs in between 3300S. and 2700S. From 500E. it runs on about 3000S. all the way to the Jordan. The Little Cottonwood Creek and Big Cottonwood Creek are the creeks more south like as far as 5500S. And there are alot of split offs if you look on a map ,these are for irrigation.[Smile] But the Millcreek stays close to 3300S. on its entire jorney

I believe that is Little cottonwood creek. I have tried it as well, but have only caught carp. When was the last time you fished it Joe? I have found the carp love popcorn in the past and went down there to try to get one on a fly, but found the big pool area low and all the fish dead. If I'm not mistaken, they plant the trout in there, I can't see how mudcats and bass end up in there though. Anyone ever fish the stretch of stream near Oceans (I think its called something else now) restaurant? Ive got some browns right next to the restaurant before. Daredevils can pull out some "nice" fish, as in the kind that make wakes in the water.

Ahhh ah, that's the problem, if you did not get rid of the stock treble hooks, then replace those with higher quality treble hooks from Gamasku or Owner companies, those danged fish cannot wiggle themselves loose if those hooks are very sharp.

Yeah , not to mention that it is a lure I found in a tree. The hooks aren't rusted but I'm very sure they need to be replaced.[Wink]

Oh yeah?! That's a danged a lot of fun looking for lures stuck on trees and plants...

I have gone christmas shopping several times while float tubing at Jordanelle by the rock cliffs and I would look very carefully in the submerged trees and brushes for any visible shiny stuff or even fishing lines tangled on them. I would pull the fishing line to see what was on the end of it. I have found at least 30 to 40 lures, half and half was spinners and crankbaits. Hey what the heck, it's free and sure beats a bad day fishing...

Yeah ,I hear you man! [cool]I've found so many lures at strawberry , me and some of my buddys will beach the boat sometimes (if the fishing is slow)in the most remote areas and crack open some beers and comb around for lures that drifted on to land (sometimes spinners but mostly rappallas, flatfish, water bubbles, anything that floats.

The most difficult lure I have ever had to hi-jack out was at Tibble Fork where the water is unusually clear down to 15 feet... I spotted something orange stuck to the bottom, it was a jointed rapala about four or five inches long... Fishing wasn't too good, so I decided to go jigging for that rapala... I used a quarter sized treble and a sinker and jigged the heck out of it for a hour which it was stuck to something and then it was tied to a fishing line... I tried to break the fishing line with my rod sticking into the water... broke one of my eye on the rod, but hey here it comes floating up within three feet from the top... arghhhhh!!! I decided to use my fishing wader boots to snag the crankbait, gotcha... i paddled back to shore with one of my swimfin as I didnt want to lose it as it was sticking to my boot... gotcha! It was apparently still new and some idiot decided to use a big crankbait on a tiny wimpy stockbrood trout... and lost it. Ha ha snickers...

I used that crankbait at Jordanelle and caught lots of big smallies with it. Sure came in handy and all it costed me was one hour of my fishing time LOL.

[sly] Thats pretty good! Those lures are exspensiveand I hate losing the ones I've bought, but then I think about all the ones I've found and used and it makes up for it.

Went to [url "http://www.topozone.com/"]http://www.topozone.com/[/url] and just printed out the entire route of Mill Creek from Mill Creek Canyon to the Jordan River It took a while and will require much pasting to make a compolete map but I got it now. And have a good reference to boot!

With Jensen Kid's advice I went and fished Millcreek one day for an hour at lunch. I fished from Main Street and about 3000 S. I went west until the next road. I had one medium brown hit my rooster tail once and then he followed it at least three more times without a hit on the end. Fun to watch but that's all the excitement I had.

I went and fished millcreek around 7th east and 3300 south yesterday. I caught four browns in about an hour all were about twelve inches. Fished with a crawler and small sinker drifting in deeper wholes. Great time
I get off at five and I think I'm going to give it another whirl today. Anyone care to join? I'll probably try somewhere around 13th east today, see if I can find some new spots.

You'll find out that there are some big browns in there if you keep fishing it.I like to release almost all the browns I catch because they are all wild in th Millcreek,(meaning there not stocked,so the population only comes from spawning browns). So keeping them all the time would really reduce the poppulation and I don't think the poppulation is that big anyway.GLAD YOU CAUGHT ONE![cool]
