Otter Creek Jun 23-24, 2025
#1
Two of us saw Adam Eakles show on Otter Creek a couple weeks back and decided to give it a go.  We left home at 6:00 AM Monday morning and arrived at the Otter Creek State Park boat launch at 10:30 AM.  We were launched and fishing by 11:00 AM.  The wind was calm for the first hour and a half.  At 12:30 PM, the wind picked up and the lake was capping by 12:45 PM.  We quit fishing about 3:30 PM.

We caught about 15 or so rainbow trout.  All of them were fat and healthy.  However, none of them were longer than 17”.  We caught them on beaded kokanee lures behind silver dodgers.  Best color was light green with purple close behind.  We trolled cranks for awhile but the wipers didn’t want to play.  We tried working a shoreline, but the wind put an end to that rather quickly.  My buddy had one smallie on for about 5 seconds.

We were back on the water the next morning about 6:30 AM.  The only fish that wanted to play were 14 to 16” rainbows.  Caught another dozen.  The wind picked up at 10:30 AM and we toughed it out until 11:30 AM.  Arrived back at my buddies N. Salt Lake home about 3:45 PM.

We stayed at the Butch Cassidy Hideout Motel/Café in Circleville and had our supper meal there.  The motel was clean and comfortable but nothing to write about.  The meal at the café left a lot to be desired.  If you go there, I would suggest sticking to one of the hamburger choices as my Malibu Chicken and my buddies Chicken Fried Steak were sub-par.

All in all, for me, it was a trip not worth repeating.  It is a long drive from the front and the fishing was so, so.  Local waters produce as good or better and are less than 60 minutes from my house.

To bad you did not get tied into one of those tank wipers but you are right lots of opportunities for like sized bows without burning up that much gas nearer to home
Remember: keep the lid on the worms, share your jerky, and stop by to say hi to Cookie and the Cowboy-Pirate crew
