Life's a bitch getting old(er), but we all know the alternative!
#1
Bduck is in recovery from many joint and spine-related problems, the worst of which has kept him off the water. In Feb. I thought I would have major back problems after I fell hard on black ice on a concrete ramp. Like Bduck, I couldn't even get into a sitting position for 15 min. and didn't have my cell phone to call for help. Finally I was able to get up though with major back pain but thankfully no symptoms of a disk. I figured that even if there was a rib fracture, what could anyone do about? I needed help getting out of a car and rising from bed was difficult for weeks! Forget lying flat! In fact, for a few days after the fall, I could only manage some sleep in a recliner. I still ache after mowing the lawn on uneven ground after sitting on the John Deere or using muscles that aren't toned after lifting heavy objects. Forget jogging!

But at 76, I still got it better than many my age but I'm always amazed seeing others much older than me still mentally and physically active. Heck, Clint Eastwood argued a case in court involving a neighbor impinging on his property and he was over 90 at the time! He won BTW. Our 80 y.o ex-fishing club president on the other hand had both hips replaced in Jan. and sold his boat because of chronic health problems. Hopefullly he has been able to fish with others this year.

Lack of sleep like for so many others young and old, is a recurring problem. I can't remember the time I slept 8 hours and now only average 5 hrs./ day. which contributes to short-term memory loss and clumsiness. One thing that hasn't changed is my writing ability when it comes to fishing and lurecraft. Another is having a good imagination and the ability to recognize and solve problems. Logical thinking is my major tool of which so many do not possess young or old. Discipline wasn't only maintained during my time in the service during the Vietnam War, but now is sorely needed so as not to f things up royally! Mistakes happen, make no mistake, and I make them daily! Mental fatigue contributes. Frushstration is a common knowing that double-checking could have prevented screw ups. Even now, I have to have a pad and pen with me at all times to be
able to complete a list of future tasks. It's bad enough not remembering simple directions driving to places I've driven to for years and getting lost at times.

Getting old is a bitch, but what the H - it ain't over until it's over!

SENKOSAMI, your description of an opening head title I would have embolden the b word.  Big Grin I am younger but 'sht' still happens and there is no escaping injury when it happens and the accompanying pain that stays what seems forever. Ironically you mentioned broken ribs, it happened to me 2yrs ago in a boating incident. Luckily after about a month I was able to continue fishing. As you have pointed out, it doesn't matter the age, it still hurts.  Cry

It would be nice to sit in one chair while watching TV without having to lie down on the couch and rotate back every 20 minutes due to lumbar spine discomfort.
Strange none of it bothers me while fishing.... Rolleyes

It's because of the email server you are using. From what I can tell email servers send pings to the web site that the notices come from and if they don't get a response, they will either put it in your spam folder or delete it altogether. When this new site started up I went through several email accounts before I found one that worked. MSN is the one I use now but I still get this notice: "We can't verify that this came from the sender so it might not be safe to respond to it." When I first started getting these notices they were going to my spam folder but once I moved it to my inbox, they are all going there now. Most members are having this problem, until they find an email account that works, like MSN.

By the way, sorry to hear about your slip and fall.

You young guys are all the same - always complaining.   Big Grin

In 2010, right rotator cuff repair.  In 2011, left rotator cuff repair.  In 2015, left knee repalced.  In 2023, CABG X 5 (5 heart bypasses).  This Feb, reverse total shoulder replacement.  Turned 83 in May.  Bought a NEW Lund in April.  Ordered new Casita Travel Trailer this month.  My signature line says it all.

Two bits of advice.  One; don't let the old man in.  Two; don't stop moving.

I hope you can find some relief for your back problems soon.

How big is this new travel trailer Bob, does this mean you are going to need to buy a bigger truck to pull it?
