I have noticed a number of threads with people putting their augers and icefishing equipment up for the year. Why? March, and early April can provide some of the best ice fishing of the year! I understand that with spring and the warm weather, ice and snow are far from everyone's mind...but for me, the icefishing doesn't stop until the ice isn't on the lakes anymore....
I'm headed out this weekend for another sunny day on the ice!

Just remember my policy, let somebody else test the ice before you go out. I hope to be there Sunday also.

for those of you that are worried about early, and late season ice....Wear your float tube while going out on thin ice....if you go through, at least you will float....getting out is another story!

Not an original thought on my part, but at least you will be able to attend your own funeral![/size]

Well I've hung up, I'm not going anywhere any iffy ice, I don't care how many " in the middle, if the edges arn't frozen and there is much slush count me out.
Wear your PFDs and tow your tubes.
I'll be sitting at the bench franticly tying flies because spring is here and melt off hasn't begun. Lets see I'll need a dozen of each in sizes 12 to 20 of Royal Wolf, Parachute adams, wd-40 serindipty's in red, green, yel......
You get the picture then there is the boat to change the Oil, clean, lube the trailer and get ready for Rockport, Strawberry, (add 4 doz varing leaches, wolly buggers and sparke flies)
Nope, I've ice fished at least 10 times this year and had good days all. Now it's time to get ready for the coming year.

Some of the best ice fishing of the year happens just before the ice breaks at Strawberry and Scofield. You have to know when to not chance it. I've fished on sundays and went back wednesday and it was open water! Once the ice starts cracking and popping again stay off because it is breaking up. Be safe.
