Flaming Gorge recommendations needed

I am taking 10 young men from church to FG.  Actually, 5 other adults are taking them, I volunteered to bring my boat for anyone who wants to fish.  There is one other 22 ft non-fishing boat going to pull kids on toys.  Anyhow, we are camping at Mustang Ridge campground and I have never been to that part of the FG.  I have only fished Lucerne and Sheep Creek areas 3 times, but that was in Dec and April.  I realize Aug isn’t an ideal time to fish.  I have no downrigger yet but bought some 2 and 3 oz clip on weights for trolling.  I downloaded a F & G map with recommendations for pups and burbot, but there is hardly any markings around Mustang Ridge area.  I wanted to troll and jig for trout, jig for Kokanee and lake  trout, maybe catch some smallmouth and have the kids catch crawdads at night.  Any suggestions for some areas to do this would be greatly appreciated.

For smallies jarvies point and anywhere in the bays around there, there is also a flat just to the south of the point with macs on it, between mustang ramp and the dam there is a flat that hold macs, the bows should be up in the bays towards dutch john, seen guys catching kokes in the wakeless area between mustang and cedar springs and jarvies.

If you want to fish, I'd run up the river towards Jarvies and even Hideout. It's a long run, but I'd feel a lot better about my chances for lake trout there than down at Mustang.

I have caught Lakers jigging right off the Mustang Boat ramp. Also found some Kokanee near Jarvies Canyon last time I fished that end. Mustang might not have the numbers of large Lakers that are found upriver but a 7-10 pound "pup" would sure make a kids trip in most cases and we did catch a few that size near the Mustang Ramp last time I was there. 1/2 oz jig with 3-4" tube and a piece of chub or sucker meat jigged right off the bottom in 35-65 feet of water might surprise you.

Thank you for the tips and spots! I have been studying my navionics and marking some potential flats and humps. It’s a big lake and narrowing it down a bit for me is a huge help. I have the tubes and sucker meat. I also have a Livescope which will help me look around underwater. Thanks again. I’ll post a report when I get back.

We were at Mustang Ridge a month ago with our youth group, but fishing from shore in the day use area. Some boys caught rainbows right in that bay, and I caught a bunch of small-ish smallmouth bass in the bay and off the point on the south side using a jake's spin a lure, worms/bobber (right on the bottom), and white curly tail grubs. We had two boats pulling kids on tubes so no fishing from the boats. Good luck!

Good luck, I'll bet you'll have a fun trip... We used to do well down around Gold point for smallies and kokes as well, it's pretty much Jarvies area... There are a couple mounds just off mustang that can draw the Mac's as well... Later J
