Berry 8/9
#1
My son and some of his friends invited me to go to the Berry with them. Since Koke fishing hasn't been too great we opted for a trout outing. Headed for Renegade expecting to catch a bunch of cutts. That did not happen. We got into rainbows and a lot of them ranging from 14 to 22 inches. The rainbow to cutt ratio was something like 6 to 1. We were trolling flicker shads on spinning rods and buggers on fly rods. The fly rods were so much fun that we pulled in the spinning rods and just fished fly rods. Black/ red bugger on sinking line was the best performer. Fun day.

Thanks for the report.  It sounds like your son had a good idea to fish the Berry.

Location and depth seems to make a lot of difference whether you get into the rainbows or cutthroats.  The last time I fished East Portal I caught the rainbows high in the water column and the cutthroats much deeper.

I have been pleased with the number of rainbows that are showing up in the catch since they are much more fun on a fly rod than the cutthroats. Wink
