Registering float tubes with electric motors
#1
I have a random question. Is there a change in regulations with the registration requirement with electric motors. I find it interesting that kids and even adults can zoom all through traffic, causing accidents, confusion and serious injuries. I’ve yet to see one of those electric scooters or bikes registered. But yet I go take a float tube on a lake. Stay away from everybody in the world, and I have to spend money and put letters on the side of it? I find this a huge double standard. I want to be a huge supporter of law-enforcement, especially those out there keeping the Waterways safe. But this is an overstep in my opinion. One of the reasons why I got rid of my float tube, set up. I would love to hear others opinions.

Have no fear Utah will never miss the opportunity to Tax, regulate for a fee or gain revenue in some manner from any bad situation. Look at the mussel  dilemma doubled the fees on everything that floats and you still can't quickly and efficiently clean you boat when leaving Powell, the source of the problem.

And let's not forget, every trailer in Utah that weighs more than 750 lbs must be titled and registered.  If 750 lbs or less it doesn't have to be titled or registered.  And then there is the Snowdog debacle.  Yep, Utah goes out of its way to make life simpler for its citizens.  ?

I feel yer pain.  Well, at least I did for many years.  Outta the business now.

I must have asked a hunnerd or more Utah snivel servants for a good explanation for WHY?  Never got more than a bunch of bureaucratic BS (bad stuff).

I finally decided it fell into the category of "Ain't no good reason fer it.  It's just Utah state policy."

In Utah, E-Bikes (that don't need to be registered) must have pedals, a motor no bigger than 750 watts and a top speed of under 20 mph with the magic button at full throttle. As we all know, there are many vehicles on the road that don't meet this requirement. I have groups of youngsters on high powered dirt bikes (6000-20,000 watt motors, no pedals and speeds in excess of 55 mph) popping wheelies up the street at speeds well in excess of 50 MPH on my 25 MPH street on a daily basis and there is no enforcement whatsoever! I feel your pain on the tube situation. At a ramp preparing your tube to launch you are a sitting duck for the park ranger to write a ticket but these herds of kids get away scott free in the city because there is no enforcement at all that I've seen, at least in Provo. I do feel a little hypocritical since I was doing the same thing on my dirt bike 50 years ago but now I'm the ornery old fart wishing I could employ a shotgun with rocksalt loads to slow them down a little. We do have laws for these electric toys but I don't think there is much enforcement.
