Slab crappie at Pineview
#1
We haven't fished PV since they closed the Port ramp and moved their operation to Anderson Cove back in 2023, and started charging 23 dollars to launch there after the regular season ends in Sept. On Sunday I found out that they finally dropped their price to $13, so we decided to give it a try today. We launched around 7:30am and headed over to an area we have done well at, between Browning point and Cemetary point. We started trolling as soon as we started marking fish. We put our downrigger balls down at 30 to 35 ft trolling at 1.5 mph. We caught a few crappie and perch but it was slow, so we started moving East, finding better groups of fish at 20'. For the next few hours, we were catching doubles, triples, even quad crappie, at the same time, the action was insane. Most of the crappie were around 10 to 10.5 but we managed 4 that were 12". We were also catching perch that were around 9". We finally decide to start trolling toward the Port ramp, as we headed in that direction, we saw a young bull moose come down to the water's edge for a drink, it was pretty cool because of that busy highway, not far from there. I would have never expected to see a moose there, especially that time of the day. Not long after that we got another double hookup but this time they both turned out to be bass. Once we got to the other side, just out from the ramp we caught a few more crappie but it was way slower. We continued toward the narrows and pick up a bluegill but the action slowed way down and we only picked up a few more crappie after that, so we headed in around 1pm. As we were leaving the wake boats were showing up in numbers, so we were glad we were leaving. Water temp got up to 69 degrees before we left. Hopefully as the temps cool those wake boats will stay away.

It is so good to hear some nice size panfish showing up. Txs
Remember: keep the lid on the worms, share your jerky, and stop by to say hi to Cookie and the Cowboy-Pirate crew

It was fun getting out to a new place instead of hitting Willard all the time and fishing some clear water was a bonus. Just an FYI, there were a group of anglers fishing the narrows from shore, it looked they were having some success too.

Thanks for the report.  What kinds of lures are you putting on a rigger to troll for perch and crappie?

3 deleted posts!! Were you commrnting on the Wake Boats or the operation of Pinview in general?? Those are nice crappie, but not worth the hassel of Pineview! Both Pineviw and Strawberry/Soldier Creek need to be under State control!!

I was trying to upload the lure pic above, directly from my phone and it wasn't working, finally on my fourth attempt, it worked but so did the previous 3 attempts. Ira and I fish Willard a lot and it's nice to have so many other lakes we can fish, in our area, so a change of pace is nice. We haven't fished PV since 2022 because of the high prices to launch but when they dropped the price, we thought why not give it a try. We use to fish it a lot in the Fall, when there was no charge to launch, so it's been Sad the last few years, that we had not been fishing it. I agree, that it would be better if it were a State park but for now that isn't happening.
I guess I forgot to mention, on this thread at least, that the local musky club, not sure what number it is, has a petition to convert PV over to a state park. I tried to reach out to K2musky, asking if she had any info about this but have yet to get any reply, so if any of you have a link to that club's website please post it here.

Wow, I'm not giving these little guys enough credit.  Do you just put the crappie nibble on the rear hook?

Another member posted about this years ago and when we went up there we found out it was true. He used those crappie nibbles on the rear hook, so that is what we did years ago but on Weds, I tried it without them and that worked too.

Great report curt. Really miss the days at the view before the high amount of wake boats and ridiculous launch fees. But this fall launch discount seems reasonable as long as that ramp is usable. Hope the petition rumor is true. Time will tell.

That pic is blurry but if you can read that part, it says that kind of crappie nibbles actually glow. The ones I had were all dried up, so I never tried them but that could make a difference when fishing that deeper water.

I can't wait to get up there and catch lots of sturgeon bait. I wish the limit was much higher so I could stock up on one trip. We will be vertically jigging for them.

Thanks Curt for the report and intel, we hit it Saturday morning and caught a bunch of crappies where you indicated on small cranks down 20’ in water between 20-40’ on small cranks in the rain.
