FYI - The ice is off Pelican Lake and Steinaker and Sandwash Reservoirs as of monday. It is not off of Red Fleet yet, but it's real close.

Hey Kayote how is the fishing at Sandwash Res.? I lived in Roosevelt for 5 years (2-7 yrs old) and my dad used to take us to Sandwash to fish quite a bit. In fact, that's probably where I learned to fish.

I remeber catching little rainbow trout there but that's about it. I also know it's chuck full of crawdads. What else is in there? Bass? gills?

Thanks for the info.

Cat Man,

Sandwash has big fat rainbows and a few big browns. It also has a few whitefish and very few largemouth bass. They are going to drain it this year to enlarge the dam, so all the fish will be dead by september. On the upside, there are lots of fish in it and they will be doubling the limit. Should be good all summer. The reservoir will be almost twice as big when it's done and will have a brand new boat ramp.

I havn't heard on the Gorge yet, but I'm waiting anxiously. We have to be the first to land macs in the yaks (rhyme). I just signed out of work for tuesday and will be chasing the mag ice out browns at first light in the kayak. I'll bring the digital in case I get lucky. Hehehe, life is good.

Tindude,

Just talked to a friend and the Mustang and Cedar ramps are open water at the Gorge. I'm waiting for Antelope though.

Seems like you have some update information on the enlargement project at Sandwash??? Inquiring minds wanna know??? Do you know if they are going to fill it this year????

I go out there for Memorial weekend every year for some R & R, while everyone is at the popular locations, i like going there to enjoy time with alot less people and water pressure.

You said something about a new ramp??? I am excited that the people of Roosevelt will be getting a bigger water source with the enlargement, but i am Saddened to see this place turn big. The enlargement definitely needs to be done, instead of the creation of the dam at Crystals Ranch up Yellowstone. What i mean by big is the possiblility of no more beach camping in undeveloped camping areas, instead camp grounds and fees, no campfires on the beach. The crowds that will flock the newly developed large water body out there. It is one of the last nice public secrets around!!! I of course am a double standard, a true fisherman, who likes to ride the wake behind the boat. and sandwash is a great place with few people!!!!!

In the other breath i am anxious to see what the state does with as for development and a bigger lake could be a good thing. I would like to see what the DWR will do with it too!!! there are so many different kinds of fish that could survive in that area!!!!

I guess i will have to wait and see to give a total opinion on the enlargement of one of my favorite places in the world when it is enlarged!!!!

Hey Kayote,

I've been waiting for your report. Good on ya. Now I have to figure out when it would be the first opportunity for reasonable success for bass and blues from a float tube. Any thoughts?

If ever you're there and see an old guy in a tent trailer, float tube with a Golden pup, sure wish you'd drop buy and say howdy. Drink beer, burbon? If not, I'm sure I could fid something for ya, venison?
