No gov't shutdown for perch at Jordanelle

Buddy & I fished from 7-10:30.  Would have stayed longer but the rains came.  Had to do a perch search, but once we found 'em the action was fun & fast, particularly on light gear.  Bagged a couple of dozen that were over 10".  All fat females egging up.  Out 10' deeper than they were 9 days ago.  I'm hoping Jordy can rival both Rockport & Echo this winter.  Got 4 footer smallies, but not in with the perch.  Water temp 63 and level still dropping.

I hope so too. Spreading out the ice crews will be good. Have you heard anyone say the have caught musky there after the big planting

The problem with Jordanelle through the ice is that it usually doesn't completely freeze.  Usually a little bit in the Rock Cliff arm at the inlet and the the bays north of the main ramp.   The rest is often open the entire winter.  I've tried to find perch through the ice at RC and usually can't get safe ice in deep enough water.   I may catch a few but nothing of size or good quantity.  The trout fishing however, can sometimes be good to fantastic.  Same with the area near the main ramp, and that area doesn't seem to have nearly as many trout either, although dink sized perch sometimes can show up.  I would love to figure winter perch out at some point at Jordy.

I wish Jordy would freeze consistently every year.  I have fished right in front of the main ramp and caught many nice splake in the years it does freeze.  Thats the only time Ive ever caught a splake out of there but I'd love to be able to target perch in there on a regular basis too.

Different perspective from what you want to do I like the fact Jordanelle doesn’t completely cap, we fish Kokanee from the boat and have great days throughout the winter..

Ditto what Obi said. I love having a reservoir that is open and launchable most winters. I have fished Jordy from my boat every month of the year most years. Perch will bite under a boat just as good as under the ice in my experience. If you don't happen to have a boat, there are plenty of good perch reservoirs that cap every winter so I'm with Obi and am not praying for Jordy to cap.
