I know a lot of us in Northern Utah have been put on metered lines, for our secondary water. For those on the Pineview water system, it will be shut off on Oct 1st this year. I was curious how I did this year,, so I called them up yesterday. I figured even though I have lowered my usage this year, I might still be using too much because I water every day, because I have a garden and just about every station has a connection that goes to one of my garden beds. The lady that answered said they are suppose to send out notices at the half way, three quarter point and end of the season, informing us where we stand on our water use. Well I never received any letters but found out that I was at 116 % of my water allotment for the year. I of course ask why I never received any letters and she gave we all sorts of reasons but the bottom line was, she did not think they would do anything this late in the season but if they did shut it off, it would cost $500 dollars to get it turned back on. $500 dollars just to turn on a line, I was outraged at that because there should be no reason it should be so high and I told her that, she said it would take someone to come out and manually shut it off but unless they are making $500 an hour that was crazy and there was no way they could justify that crazy price, just to close and open a valve. I guess by next year I'll have to connect all my garden boxes on one line and quit watering my yard so much, so I can continue to water my garden, at the same rate. Have any of you had any problems with your metered water this year, did you receive any letters this year about your usage? I'd like to hear about your experiences, just to see what is really going on around me, thanks.

The new meters went in this summer and at the same time fiberoptics was installed making a real mess of our neighborhood. With my new knees & back injury I haven't been able to straighten out some of the mess that was left behind yet.

They left a big mess at my house last year and it took some effort to get it cleaned up, I even called them up and complained and they sent a guy out. With the issues you have had this year you should for sure give them a call. By the way, hows your back doing?

My back is doing a lot better but can be stressed when doing more than I should. I have a couple of under hood 7.3 projects, the knees are not ready for that stress test, so its on hold for a while. I have the parts stockpiling.

I also have a new secondary meter installed. I have no clue if it is being read or not. My lawn gets 2 applications of water per week. I have no clue as to what my allotment is or what percentage of that allotment I have used. There has been no correspondence from the water company other than the monthly notice of payment due. I have not been made aware of pricing if or when they decide to start billing on metered usage. I get my water from Hooper Irrigation Company which may do things differently than your company. I'm waiting for a call back from my company to find out how my company is handling over use on secondary water.

Is your secondary water still on Bob? I looked it up online and it said your water in Hooper was shut off on Sept 15. Either way, today is the last day for the rest of us on the Pineview water system. If you are only watering twice a week, I'm sure you are ok, unless you are watering for an hour, or more on each station. They told me that if I water three times a week, I would be fine but I water 7 days a week, because of my garden. My guess is this first year, they are just waiting to see how it goes and next year they will take action, if people start going over on their water allotment. The meter sends the info to the internet, of the water usage, over the nearest phone line and it's automatically uploaded to the internet. You can create an account and view this info yourself, whenever you want, at that website.

Curtis, what do you grow that requires daily watering? The reason I ask is because when I grew up, in Payson, UT, we had a large garden (corn, cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, strawberries and a few other vegetables). We got our water from a ditch that ran in front of our house. Approximately, every 7 1/2 days we got our water turn of just over 2 hours. That was the only water that our plants ever received, and the garden grew just fine.

I have a drip irrigation system, so in the amount of time I have it on, the ground would never absorb the amount of water that the ground could absorb when flood irrigating, that being said, where I live, the ground is sandy and does not hold water well. One thing I found over the many years I have lived here, is when I water on a daily basis, I get more produce and we blanch and freeze dry our excess produce, and in good years, we get enough to last until the next year, so we rarely buy produce, except for the items we don't grow. If you still grow a garden, how often do you water it?

With sandy soil your method makes more sense. I water my garden three times a week (I would only water twice if I didn't have raspberries, but they seem to do better with additional water) and I also have a drip system. My soil is the opposite of sandy it has lots of clay in it.

Below is the contact information for the Weber District and how to register
Thank you for contacting Pineview Water Systems to access the meter portal. Below is the link you will use, as well as the VN ID and Account Id.
Once you click on the link, click on Register. Type in your VN ID and Account ID. It will then ask if you want to add another meter. If you only have one meter installed on your property, select no. If you have additional meters on your property, please contact 801-622-4353 so we can provide you all VN ID's. To continue with registration, type in your email and click submit. You will receive an email from WaterScope to verify your email. Once verified, you will receive a second email with your username and a temporary password. We recommend you change the password once logged in.
Once you are logged into your meter portal account, you will be able to view your usage and set up notifications.
At this time, you will still be billed through your property taxes, not by usage. If that changes in the future, you will be notified.
If you have any questions about your meter or the portal, you may email us at meters@pineviewwater.com or call 801-622-4353.

I still had water yesterday but shut it off, no need to water will all the rain we got. Will blow out my lines next week, when it warms back up a little and it's nicer weather outside.
