Fishin' the Weber

Howdy boys, I just signed up here at Big Fish Tackle and am loving it!!! I was just wondering how many of ya out there fish the Weber and what do you use. I have never fished by the dam at rockport but am thinkin about it real hard. Any hints for me and that would be great. Thanks Guys.

Welcome aboard! I've fished the Weber with not too much luck but I hope to change that soom! Leaky & HFT are regulars on the Weber and so are a bunch of others. There will be lots of help for you here.

Welcome aboard! From my some what limited experience, the best flies to use have been prince nymphs (with or without bead heads), [size 1]pheasant[/size] tails, and scuds. Those seem to produce well year-round and even even in the middle of a massive hatch. I have also done well on egg patterns, wooly buggers, and silver hiltons. In the fall it is hard to beat a good hopper pattern or foam-back beetle. My best fish, however, came on a small rainbow color rapala and I have also done well on panther martins and mepps spinners. The lower sections allow bait which I am sure works too. Leaky is probably the real expert on that [size 1]stretch[/size] and has been fishing it at least 2 times/week.

Trout crazy have fun on the weber the fishing is great this year with sow bugs,caddis larva,zebra midges. watch the special regs on that section of river.

Yep, welcome a board. ruger's info. is right on the mark as far as I'm concerned, except about me being the expert!!!! I do fish it a lot but only cold weather. Once it warms up I start hitting the warm water species and bird/duck hunting in the fall. My mission this year is to figure out how to be reliably successful from my tube at Willard for wipers. Mission Impossible?

You might be right Paul, a few years ago a friend of mine caught a fish that he could not identify in the river below 12th street. I showed him the proclamation and he picked out a walleye as the fish he caught.

You're way too humble ] I don't see anyone else posting the kind of reports that you do about the Weber. So if there is ever a question I have, don't be suprised if you get a PM[ ]

I use mostly nymphs on the the Weber. Sow Bugs, pheasant tails, prince nymphs, any scud type fly that has some orange in it, hare's ears all work well.

Glad you found us Trout Crazy! I have fished the Weber with very little luck as of late. Water clarity was way down with the recent warmer temps. I've heard that people are doing pretty good from peterson upstream. Particulalrly in the area you mentioned (below rockport dam). Sorry I'm not much help, but just had to welcome you anyway..

Hey leaky, i might have to take his word for it. You do seem very knowledgeable. I actually have a cabin right on the Weber up kind of by smith and morehouse. My dad and grandpa used to fish it alot when my dad was a kid now my dad passed it on to me. I have been fly-fishing it ever since i can remember and always have used H&L variant. A couple of summers ago i learned how to use a dropper system and hanging a Hares ear nymph from the dry is a deadly combination. Thanks for the tips.

if a walleye got into the weber it is virtually impossible that it came from willard. all the ladders diversion and canals between it and the weber make it almost inconceivable. sounds like another bucket plant to me.
