That is a nice fish, I guess it was caught at Utah lake? Is it because the fish is in the cooler that it makes it look funny, out of proportion? WH2

Yes it was to bad that fish wasn't allowed to finish her spawn . All because the guy wanted to know how much it weighed and no one had any scales for him to use . I bet he would of found another reason he had to keep it . Oh well , here is some other pics of the same fish .

Its an interesting start to a discussion.

I for one am not going to say who should and shouldnt keep what fish they catch. I will leave that up to the proclamation.

But, on a related topic, I have always felt that the best change that could be made to the proclamation is the closure to possession of fish during that fish's spawn period.

This would ensure the maximum ammount of fish are left to reproduce given the conditions of the year. We all know that fish congregate in certain areas to spawn, the DWR at times closes these areas, but doesnt close the possession of the fish.

Of course I dont know how this would effect the fish populations, my assumtion is that is would increase the population of fry, and also survival rates of fry, leading to more fish year long, year after year.

I have seen other states do this, and always thought it would be a good thing here.

So, without causing any controversy, whats your opinion?

Chris , are you trying to stir the pot ? Ok I will !! LOL I would be for it "catch and release" until the spawn is over . Let them spawn in "3some" . [cool]

Some folks like myself fish for eye's year round and do so so now and then while other people fish for them year after year and catch lil if any. I dont blame a person that may have never caught one,, or catches few of them for keeping a big one when it comes their way.

that is a great idea there perdator, i am for releasing the fish during the span periods, dependent of the species and body of water. ice fishing at fish lake all the perch caught were laden with eggs and we kept them all

The states in the east/midwest do have the closed season to insure walleye spawning complete, and then they have a opening day which is usually the biggest and the messiest day out on the lakes back there. It is interesting to see how those laws affect the walleyes and the fishermen who wait and get ansty during the closed season, they practically kill each other haha.

I can easily think of a dozen places that should be C&R during the spawn. After that who cares. Any trout lake that can sustain a natural population should be closed at least 100 yards from the spawning area. Let us still fish it but with Artificial regs. and C&R. Those places will still get slammed like always but would insure a good spawn and more fish for later.

I'm all for closing the take of walleye over 20in. during the spawn. why in the world would anybody want to eat a walleye that big. I'd rather eat the little 17in. less fat and the taste is better. what really gets me is the walleye come in shallow to drop egg and everybody is wading all over them, and people ask whats happen to the walleye populations. thats why the bubble up was closed from 7:00pm until 7:00am to protect the walleye spawn. something needs to happen at lincoln beach now before it gets too late. just my opinion

Do not forget to mention a huge reason the bubble up was close during certain hours is because to many people (and I use the term lightly) would leave their fishing pole in their auto, and merely grab a huge drip net and head lamp. [mad]
