FisherDad??

My newest FisherMOM article...

When our family goes fishing, my husband usually fixes the tangled lines, baits the hooks, and removes the fish for our youngest daughter. He says that he has to, because I am off fishing and don’t have time to do these things. Truth be told, he has brought this on himself. Many times I have offered to help the kids, and he said "No, it’s O.K., I have it. You go fish." So now, they just automatically go to him for help. When I take them fishing, they take care of most all of their needs except an occasional tangle or fish hooked too deep.

My husband doesn’t eat, sleep and breathe fishing the way that I do. He says that he could get into it, but never gets the "opportunity" to fish because he is the "helper". I have tried to give him that time to fish alone, and have given him many chances. I used to feel sorry for him until late last summer when the pond’s water level dropped. The pond was all weeds with scattered open holes all around. In my eyes, it became a bass fisherman’s dream, in his eyes, it was just "a bunch of weeds to get tangled around your lure so why bother trying to fish" kind of pond. He had learned how to fish a buzzbait that summer, but once the weeds were all that he was reeling in, he quit fishing. As for me, I started catching bass hand over fist because I wasn’t afraid of the weeds. I landed my biggest Bass at this time; a 3 pound Largemouth. I know that there are bigger bass in the pond, I almost landed one last fall. Maybe this year I’ll get her.

A true bass fisherman will fish in the rain, fog, thick weeds and even the heat of the day.

I may be a woman, but I am definitely a true bass fisherman. My husband, aw, he’s just a sucker for his kids! [Wink]

Good Story MoM,

It sounds like you are lucky to have a husband who is a sucker for his kids! I would much rather be a sucker for the kids than an uncaring dad who would much rather do anything besides be with his kids.
