bountiful lake report 5-1-04
#1
Got out around 6:30 pm and met kentofnsl. We fished on the north side back by the bridge. Kent got a couple of bites fishing for cat and carp or whatever we could catch. I lost a few setups and just managed to get frustrated. Lots of fish surfacing. Kent threw out a nuclear ant tipped with nigtcrawler under a bobber and WHAM. A little blue gill. I did the same only with a small shrimpo tipped with nightcrawler. Kent had better success at catching them then I did but I did have one big suprise. I caught an 8 inch crappie. I had no idea they were in there. It was fun.

Went back about 10:30 to meet another friend out there. We fished near the same spot and caught about 20 catfish between the 2 of us. We used chicken liver. It was a fun night but I could have done without the mosquitos. Thank you for the reppellant Kent.

I'm new to the area and I have never herd of bountiful lake. Where is it at? How big were the cats?

Bountiful Lake (pond) is by the land fill (better known as the dump). Just head west on Pages Lane and you can't miss it. As for how big the cats were I don't know I wasn't there LOL. But usually they are not huge. I will say that F & G use this pond for placing their old brood stock, so you can catch a few nice fish from time to time.

I saw in another post that you are from Woods Cross. I live there too. If you go north on 1100 w through West Bountiful (just a hint Bountiful lake is not in BOUNTIFUL, it's in WEST Bountiful), past the golf corse to 2600 n (which is also Pages Lane, but I don't think it is marked as Pages at 1100 w)then turn left and go about 1/4 mile you will see the entrance to the BOUNTIFUL dump (again the BOUNTIFUL dump is in WEST Bountiful)and a bridge over a small stream. Don't go over the bridge turn on the dirt road before the bridge and that will put you there.
Hope to see you there sometime.

I am out there all the time, we should all meet up sometime. I have had quite a bit of success fishing there.

Yes, it was a fun quick fishing trip on a Saturday evening. I believe the fish we caught were green sunfish rather than bluegills. Wish I could have caught some of those catfish, but I guess that I enjoy sleeping too much to fish during the prime time. If you fish with loanfish be sure to carry some extra fishing line for him to borrow (LOL)!

Hey thanks for the info guys. I slipped out to bountiful lake wed. night. Fished from the boat ramp from about seven to nine and only had two little taps. Was fishing with chub minnow pieces and green shrimp pieces. Saw one family pull about 50 lbs. of carp out of the lake on a stringer, but didn't see a single person catch a catfish. Maybe I'll give it a shot after dark one night.

You almost got it right. It is actually 1600 n. The largest we caught was about 4 lbs. Hey Moby Dick we need to get out there and fish it in the eve. The best thing for bait for cats here is chicken liver. Although I have wrestled in a few on the sucker minnows that I catch.
