does scofield have carp in it?
There was a rather large fish(relatively speaking) that kept pounding the surface chasing some small fish/fry...the small fish were barely 2 inches long at best. i threw my worm over at it and several lures trying to simulate the little ones...but it wasn't interested.

Sounds like what you saw was a cutt feeding on the redside shiners, at least thats what I hope.. We had similar surface activity when I was up there last weekend and spinners worked well. I'm surprised that it didn't go for the spinners. Once the surface activity died off we went to powerbait and started catching rainbows. I certainly hope what you saw was a cutt and not a carp. That would be a grim discovery indeed.

i didn't necessarily think it was a carp..i just know they surface a lot in the evening and flop around. whatever it was it was chasing those shiners(?) for maybe 2 hours, maybe there were more than one, but it seemed to be one rather large fish working his/her way around a several hundred yard area. i only got a decent look at it once and it looked to be at least 6 inches 'tall' at the mid section, it was pretty big for what i'm used too. made a heck of a splash everytime and had quite a 'wake'...and man were those shiners freaking out! lol
i would have been a bit more aggressive in pursuing it, had i known for sure it wasn't a carp. i wanted my 'first fish' to be a trout for some reason...otherwise i would have been hangin out at bountiful pond, which is only a 5 minute drive from where i live.

Yeah, those rainbows get pretty fiesty alright! Was that fish really fat shaped like a football, or was it a little leaner? I've really grown to like Scofield quite a lot. Never seem to get skunked there anymore. Speaking of those dead crayfish, just a little secret between you and me (yeah right, this board is getting VERY POPULAR) there is a little crayfish looking grub think made by Berkley called 1" power nymph in a smoke color. Go find yourself a little 1/16 oz jighead that looks similar to it, and tip it with a piece of worm, and cast away near a rocky shorline there. It works like a champ during ice fishing season up there, and I'm anxious to try it this year on the soft water. My friend cut up this nice 20"er that he caught last year and the belly had a bunch of crawdads in it, 3 of which were still alive. That's where I got the idea from.

i would say it was between lean and football shaped. it was definitely very healthy.
the trout i used to catch this time of year in oregon were always skinny. didn't catch the 'fat' ones till maybe july or august , with the biggest ones being caught late in the year, october to early november, when apparently they would gorge themselves to make it throught the winter.
