Deer Creek 5-08-04
#1
Fished Deer Creek this evening (4:30 till 8:30) for walleye with the wife. We managed only 1 14 inch walleye and a small smallmouth. The walleye came from a bottom bouncer and crawler rig up in the Wallsberg arm. The smallie came from a #9 rappala out of 15 feet of water. The water temp was 57 when we left, tried down by the island, and marked lots of fish, just coulcn't get hooked up. There were a couple of other boats down by the island, and they came up empty as well. The wind was a little lighter tonight than it has been the last few days, and it was a beautiful evening for sure. Wndering how the bass tournament turned out, I have had a hard time getting any action from the bass so far this year. Nails

We fished the island from shore on thursday and could not get the smallies to even look at anything we threw. Does anyone know when they typically begin to get more aggressive? Any info you could provide would be great.

Gosh, I can't believe how these smallies have lockjaw so bad.... I didn't fish there much last year, but the year before, I fished smallies like they were going out of style and I was catching spawners or prespawn maybe in late April around the island and then it just got better after that....is the water still way low or something? Wallsburg bay was really good for me too when I fished it across from the boat ramp on that riprap shoreline..... I used to just get in them thick swimming a soft plastic jerkbait out from the shore. It didn't seem to matter back then, it was almost a fish on every cast technique. Maybe I'll have to go back and see what I can do to "awaken" the smallies and then report on whether or not any of my tricks worked..... Sorry to hear the fishing has been so poor up there for the warmwater species....when I lived in Provo, that place was a favorite of mine.

Have a black and grey Lund ProV with a Yamaha outboard. I was going to try the west side of Charlston bay, but we kept marking fish so I kept trying something different hoping to unlock the secret. I think this week will really turn on if the front that is supposed to come through isn't too big! I will be looking for you.........Nails
