I've got a few questions about fishing for perch and other small, easy to catch fish. My little girl just started fishing this year and we have gone to catch mudcats and sunfish a few times, but I have never myself gone after perch. She really wants to catch some fish we can eat and I know perch are easy to catch. How do you rig for perch fishing from shore. I was thinking about Jordanelle, Rockport, Echo, or Deer Creek this weekend. Any suggestions on which one and what to use. I'm thinking about a spot where I can try for an eye or a bass while she is slaying the perch. Thanks for the help.

Try the nell around the Rock Cliff side or I've heard people talking about over by the campground too...don't know for sure because I've not fished that lake since over a year ago but when i fished the provo arm, there were quite a few smallies and perch over there.... hope you find em.

[#800080]Its too early for Jordanelle(the water is too cold). I suggest trying the Utah lake boat harbors ie Provo, Lindon, or American Fork. There is plenty of pan fish in these places.[/#800080]

I second tomegun on Utah Lake harbors. While she's catch bluegill, crappie, whities, mudcats etc. You can fish for walleyes and bass. I've had lots of success in all the harbors, Bird Island and Lincoln Beach area.

RiverRat77: We got into the perch 2 weeks ago and had to beat them off with a stick![#0000ff] No way is it too early for them hungry little critters[/#0000ff]. We were fishing Rockcliff from shore along the the side of the lake where the road goes into the water (north side) and down by the no wake bouy. We got into the chubs big time and were pulling up one on every cast as we threw out towards the bouy. But closer in towards shore maybe out 10 ft or less as the shoreline drops off rapidly we were hitting the perch one after another on just a worm and a sinker. Sometimes I just laid the rod over the inflatable boat with about 3 ft of line in the water and I was nailing fish while I was pulling out another worm to put on the hook or putting a fish on a stringer. I was insane, We easily had caught 100 fish between the chubs and the perch. We took home 30-40 perch for fish tacos that night and had caught chubs for over 3 hours one after another. Those sucker can really fight and it was really fun on ultra light tackle. I'm thinking about heading back there this weekend (Friday or Saturday!
