Hit DC tonight for a couple of hours.NO eyes agian this trip. But the slow night turned into an excited one for a 6yr old little girl ,my daughter.Went over to fish in the honey hole for smallies it was a little slower then what it had been, but still were hooking up.My daughter said "daddy i think i have asnag on the rocks" so i went over and checked it out.It was no snag, but a huge fish,i thought at first it was a EYE the way it was pulling or hanging. She got it up to the baot and it was a huge smallie i would say about 17" and about 2lbs!..I have never caught a smallie that big or have seen one that big in person, she is one up on her old man!![sly][sly] its so cool to see the excitment of a little girl catching a big fish like that! Yeah dad forgot the camera in the truck..way to go me!..[unsure][unsure]
Just a side note..had another skier come within 30 yrds of are boat while fishing for bass going full speed..WOW they have the whole lake with only a few other boats on the water..they did this 3 times to us..some people,i am really beging to think skiers are really rude and inconsiderit to others..WOW.[mad][mad]

I fished Deer Creek on saturday on the southwest corner of the island. I was using a 5" senko. I could feel the fish biting every time I cast, but never managed to get the hook set on one. I know a lot of the fish are small, but everyone else seems to be able to catch even these small fish. What is the trick to it? Also, what kind and size of hook are you using? Any help is much appreciated. My dad managed to catch 7 seven smallies on a black tube jig.

[size 2]Kinda fished with Walleyebob and his buddy Brad saturday, in diffferent boats. Fishing was very slow, no walleyes and only small smallies. Fished the "honey hole" area, just little rats. water temperature was from 60-62 degrees. Not very warm.[/size]

Nice report, and I wish I could have seen your daughters face when that fish got near the boat! That has to be the best feeling in the world. We fished up there from 6:00 am till around 1:00 pm when the wind blew us off and caught plenty of fish but nothing of any size. Still a bit on the cool side I think. About 5 more degrees warmer and watch out! nails

I just used 2/0 sized off-shank gamasku hooks, and hook it in the middle of a 5 inch senko... (wacky) jig it on the bottom or just off the bottom... smallies are there alright. The temp was 58 degrees according to my fishfinder early saturday morning. I agree that fishing was slow, but with the weather being a moody female dog, I had to fish it slow.
I also used double tailed grubs, rigged carolina style, and just drag it on the bottom. It sure looked like a crawdad walking backward on the bottom. Most dinks were after those! I got sick of dinks, so I upgraded to bigger daddies called senkos... I was getting a lot of bites from those dinks trying to fit it in their small mouths. LMAO.
I was getting bigger dinks from double-tailed grub up to 2 pounders. Perhaps the water needs to warm up more for those smallies to get really aroused by a worm.

We hit Deer Creek on Sunday Morning at 8:30 and by 10:40 we had boated 5 nice trout - biggest 17", 2 eyes - biggest 16", and a small bass. We were trolling in the 20' to 35' of water and had a great day - once we found where the trout were hitting - in a walleye area on walleye lures - 24' depth, we just continued to circle the area and that's where all the fish but one were boated. It is funny that the action was all inwith about a 150 yards area. All fish were taken on crankbaits except for one eye - it was taken a a silver & green flatfish - my second in two weeks on a flatfish. I have never seen a walleye strike a flatfish but two weekends in a row.... go figure.... it bites on the trout line. All line were using snap-on weights...
The water skiers weren't too bad but I did see a ranger (with gun) on a jet ski patrolling the lake and naturally checking the trollers because they were the easy ones too catch.....
One thing that I think is plain wrong with Deer Creek is letting the wind boarders park down next to the beach on the north launch. I was cited last year for parking up in the weeds in November (below the high water mark) for $74 and they let these folks park right down there for hours on end. Make the law evenly enforceable for everyone - 15 minute load/unload parking time. And of course the ranger had to park his truck and jet ski trailer down in the handicapped area - rank does have it's privledge. Just venting..........
