I thought a child could have 1/2 a limit with no license, and a whole limit with a license.

Page 11, section C, number 5.

"A person (resident or nonresident) under 14 years of age may fish without a liscense and take a full bag and possession limit."

Now, there is no special rules for persons under 14 on the gorge.

The gorge info on page 2 is simply announcing the change to the lake trout harvest regs. And making sure people know the limit on kokes is still 3.

BUT, I run into a lot of guys who think the possession limit is still what it used to be. "Twice the daily bag limit." Thats where guys get into trouble.

As of a few years ago, the new definition of possession limit is "Possession limit means, for purposes of this proclamation only, one bag limit, including fish at home, in a cooler, camper, tent, freezer, or any other place of storage."

Thats on page 5 under the definitions section.

So, you can have a limit, your wife can have a limit, and your boy can have a limit even if the boy is under 14 and has no liscense.

Regular gorge limits apply, six fish in the trout or salmon, no more than three can be kokes. and then you could have 10 smallies each.

Three of you could make quite a haul, 9 kokanee, 9 trout, 30 smallmouth.

The biggest complaint I hear from guys is they spend a weekend up there fishing kokanee and can only have three fish in thier possession for an entire weekend.

it did used to be that a kid could have half a limit, but that was changed a couple years ago so they can have a full limit statewide.

Keep on trying to call that fish cop and definetly leave a message. They will call you back but make sure you give them a call every day just in case they forget.

Right you are, Predator! Especially on the possession end of things. It seems as if many people get a "gross" limit figured out as being a "bag" limit multiplied by the number of times they go fishing. If someone looked in their freezer at home, they might see dozens of fish just wasting and freezer burning away. The fact is, "possession" = "bag" as I read the proclamation. Isn't that correct?

I wonder if that is beacuase of the wyoming restrictions.

Wyoming might have a 1/2 bag limit for kids.

I know they like to try to keep the limits ect. the same on interstate waters like powell, the gorge, and bear lake, so maybee thats one of thoise deals where wyomings law is unliscensed youth get a 1/2 a bag limit, so they kept it the same.

But heres what sucks about that #10 rule, it jst says they are different, it doesnt say anywhere that the kid limit is half, or that it applies to the wyoming side, or anything else. It just says the limit is different.

Looks to me like theres been an oversight by the proclamation writing commitee.

You would think there would be some specific limits set out in the flaming gorge special regs section, or that there would be a subsection under bag and possession limits explaining what the differences are.

I personally cant find anything that specifies what if any rules there are for a reduced limit.

I would go online and look at wyomings proc and see if there rules are 1/2 bag for kids. I am betting thats the problem. Utah is probably just trying to make the rules for the lake more standardized so theres not confusion and issues when on one side of the state line.
