2 cycle oil
#1
Any recommendation for a good 2 cycle trolling motor oil. The kind we have been buying has been fouling the plugs after about 4 trips. I was hoping to spend a little more on some new oil and less on new plugs.

Motorcycles, weed wackers, ect. are not outboards, but 2cycle is still 2 cycle. If you are fouling plugs that regularly I assure it is not the oil. You may have the mixture off just a bit (most common reason) or you may need a slightly hotter running plug. The gap may not be set correctly, low engine comperssion or a bad valve can all cause this problem. To be honest most oils today are like todays gas, they are pretty much the same. Exceptions being the new synthetics or blends. They all come from fossil fuel and must meet certain federal standards. Thus they end up being the same. Just buy a good quality 2 cycle oil (any brand that is not recycled oil) and check the other things. Imyself would do a compression check on the engine first. If compression is still good the change the heat range on the plug. Hope this helps.

What kind are you using? I buy mine at the gas station, usually its Pennzoil or Valvoline sometime its Phillips 66 brand but only when I have no other choice. The key for keeping your plugs from fouling is to always use a oil stabilizer like Sea Foam or one of the many stabilizers on the market. If your motor is older, try using plugs that are one step hotter but don't go much more than that or you might burn a hole in your pistons. I hope this helps, good luck. WH2

Try the Sea Foam fuel aditive..its great stuff!! I use it with my 1971 6hp. johnson trolling motor and in my boat..keeps the carb clean and water out of the gas!..its about $6 a bottle..i usually put a little over a 1/3 of the can in a 3 gallon tank(for trolling motor) then dump the rest in for the big motor..that should help!
