Wiperslayer1 and I just returned from sturgeon fishing in Idaho. We ended up getting six sturgeon to the boat (39 inches, 41 inches, 3 at 49 inches, and one at 52 inches). These are just pups as far as sturgeon go, but nonetheless we are thrilled to have caught them, and I have my new largest fresh water fish ever. Great time, great company and weather was great for much of the time. Pictures to be posted tomorrow.

Nice report kent. I wanted to go really bad, but I just got back from vacation and there was no way my boss would let me take more time off. Keep me in mind still though. I would really like to go. Let me know if you are ever fishing on a monday. I am pretty much always off. talk to ya later,
Jed

Sorry, I forgot the other fish. Four channel cats and about 60 small mouth bass (we could have caught many more, but we only fished for them for at most two hours).

Way to go guys, what was the best bait this time? Kent, did you have the best luck in the same hole that we fished in last year with Craig? Can't wait to see those pictures. What was the water temp? WH2

Curt, yes we fished the same hole as last time and also caught one a little down stream from there. We tried all kinds of bait (cisco, trout, perch, shrimp, crawlers, and herring). I got several bites on cisco but never hooked anything, so not sure what was biting. Hot bait was the old standby of herring and 3 or 4 crawlers. (BTW -- it is legal to fish with dead game fish as bait in Idaho.) I purchased a second pole permit for $12.50, which allowed me to keep up with Ira and his single pole! Water temperature was about 74 degrees. It is only around 2,500 feet in elevation in that area, so the air temperature will be on the warm side for the next couple of months. BTW -- for those who don't know, it is strictly catch and release of all sturgeon in Idaho, and it is also illegal to remove them from the water.

"So what was your biggest saltwater catch?" Many moons ago, I caught a shark while fishing for Salmon. The deck hand reached down and cut my leader, so I am not sure how large it was, but it may have weighed a little more than the sturgeon -- not sure.

As cool as sturgeon are, I was wishing for some smallmouth pics.
I opened up all the attachments, but only found Ira. I have seen his mug before.

Sorry, but after reeling in 4 feet plus fish, taking a picture of a 12" fish just doesn't seem to be much of a priority. If you want to see smallmounths I guess that you will need to go to the Jordanelle threads.

Great Report Kent and glad the boys were biting. You have been in my thoughts since you said you were heading north and I was hoping you would connect with Herman (the monster) but with your report is proof you now have taken the torch and it is just a matter of time before you rip those big lips.
So how did the Penn 350m work?? I hope you were able to try the reel out.
I hope this post will generate interest in the gators up north and with it being a catch & release fishery, the potential will continue to be available for all.
So how big were the channel cats and what did you catch them on???
