How many of those 7000 post on any kind of regular basis?

Sure would be great if even more people participated. I know I don't near as much as others but I would bet over half of those registered haven't even posted.

Also...how many of them are on the utah board? Keep in mind members are from every state as well as overseas.

It would be interesting to know how many are from Utah but if the number of Utah posts is any indidcation then a large number of the registered users are probably from here too.

I've checked out the boards for a couple other states..and there were pretty much dead. Going to Oregon in a couple weeks and checked theirs' out and only thing i read was a post about every 2 weeks with general fishing conditions throughout the state.

It's good to live in a state with such active participation and friendly folks!!

That may be so and maybe not. Only a mod can really know I guess. There could be lots of registered members from other states who just don't post. Especially if the other boards are empty.

The activity of the UT board has been discussed before in another thread last summer. I vaguely remember it but here in Utah we are the most active!!! I would think that is due to all the friendly fisherfolks out here and good old Utah hospitality. Where else can you go, post as a new member, and get a few invites to go fishing from perfect strangers?

Well...I'm a former New Yorker been in UT for almost 2 years and if that happened in NY I would have probably shown up strapped with some backup. You never know what awaits you.

I don't know if The Angler decided to move to Utah or not but I thought the reason he was considering it was the fact that this board was so active and friendly. I thought about sending him a PM to find out where or if he decided to move but I haven't done it yet.

Well, I guess its time to chime in on the subject.

In the ealry days, before there was even two posts on the utah board, it was impossible to tell how many people used the page.

If a guy registered, we didnt ask for his state location, we just needed an e-mail to send you a password. And there was no way to know how may users were from each area.

thats changed. We now have a state selection at registration so we can effectivley know how many registered users are from each state.

But its still not perfect, that only applies to registered users. Just about anyone can visit the site as an unregistered user and the only way to track those numbers is by page views.

So our info on numbers of registered users is incomplete for this state, because guys who registered before the change like WH2, kent of nsl, BLM, tube dude, skeeter, x man, dennis w, and hundreds of the old timers around here werent asked thier state at registration.

This we do know, the page views per week for the utah boards is unreal. Far out weighing even what my wildest guesses would have been. This thing is huge.

The best way to track the activity from your seat at home is to look at the number of views on the first post of each thread.

The first post always gets the most views since its been there the longest. So by looking at that number, you will be able to see how many times that post has been opened up and read.

Sometimes its amazing how may times a post gets read in a matter of a couple hours.

It may have only 2 replies made to it, but it can have been looked at hundreds or thousands of times before it even makes it off the first page.

Watch the big fish thread numbers. When a guy posts a pic of a six pound smallmouth, or a 30 lb laker, or a good wiper post, the numbers go up fast.

I'm a relatively new member of BFT, and I have been able to fish for new species of fish at new locations, using new and different tackle and tactics thanks to the friendly members on the Utah board. Personally, I also believe that I've learned so much due to a lot of friendly Utah folks willing to share their expertise and advice. I think this board is great, and my hat is off to all those who regularly contribute to make the Utah BFT board what it is.

Thinking back, I have to laugh. Back in the summer of '02 I PM'ed Predator and talked him into taking me fishing out on Willard. When my wife and kids found out that I was about to go out on a lake with a stranger who called himself "PREDATOR", they all got on their knees and beged me to stay home and not go .... he, he, he,

[cool][blue]Hey WH2, Angler is plunking down on a ranch near Colorado Springs. But, I put a bug in his ear (electronically) about planning a Colorado and Utah BFT get-together sometime. He seemed to like the idea.[/blue]

Thats a great idea TD, I know we have a few BFT members in Colorado that I consider friends. Of course the problem would be trying to decide were this get-together would take place. WH2

[cool][blue]I imagine the time of year and the water conditions (drought) may have some influence on the final choice of venues. (sounds like the olympics)[/blue]

[#0000ff]We did not discuss any options, but I am thinking that the Gorge would probably be a good place to start thinking about. At least DonInDenver seems to like that pond, and if both teams do some vehicle pooling, it should be doable expensewise.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]If it was timed right, there would be plenty for all to do...trolling, beach casting, trout, smallies, the whole enchilada. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]That's my suggestion. We will have to wait for TheAngler to get settled in to his new digs in Colorado and probably start planning for next year. Although, an ice fishing shot might be a possible too...if the Gorge freezes this coming winter. Before that, in October, we got the annual "BIG MACK FLING". [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Any other ideas or suggestions?[/#0000ff]

I think the ice get-together might be tough for a lot of people and Oct might be a little soon but next year around this time might work. The Gorge would be a great place for a get-together for a lot of people and it would give everyone plenty of time to make plans. WH2

[cool][blue]You are probably right, about next summer being a good time to plan something. Heck, we could even make it an "intermountain" or western...or whole USA BFT shindig.[/blue]

[#0000ff]In the meantime, I will have a lot of getting together to get done once I move back up there. Lots of good BFTers to meet and lots of fish to molest.[/#0000ff]

i can picture this now, "caution to all fishermen to who do not belong to BFT, there will be a mass invasion of bfter of the gorge, we would recomend finding a new spot" being posted at the visitor center on the gorge. whole western-midwestern thing would be huge, we could do some serious damage that way, lol. good idea tubedude
