Need help ... curly tail color for Pineview
#1
If I can get out of going to the parade Monday, I would like to hit Pinvew Monday morning. I'll be chasing tigers first. Then, when all the recreational boaters get out there, I'll move down into the wakeless narows for some smallie action.

For the smallies, I'm thinking about trying some curly tail jigs rigged Texas style. And I have three related questions: 1. Would curly tail jigs rigged Texas style work very good on those bass? 2. What color(s) would work best? 3. What color bead (or no bead) would be best?

Or, an even better question, what's your favorite lure or technique to catch smallies in Pineview?

I may be out there on Monday too, if you see a little red/white boat named "SS MINNOW" say hey. As far as grubs go perch color or crawfish color works best for me with sparkles if you can find it. texas rigged may work good, I prefer a 1/16 jig head or the smallest one you can feel on the bottom, or no weight if you can cast it and work it slow like a dying minnow, those always work for me, crankbaits are great to. I had a Musky question, I always cast shallow for them, ran into a few, does anyone troll for them? if so how? Hope this info helps, have fun with all the yachts up there.

Hey coot,

I've had good success there with white and darker colors. When I head out there fishing of the shore in the narrows I used to throw alot of 3" Senkos last year. This season the few times I've been there the bite has been hot on tubes.

I've been using 1.5" tubes that I picked up at sportsmans on 1/16 ounce jig heads. Two styles in particular I have had luck with first is Glow Hustler Black/Firetail and the second is Tri-Color red/black/white. Both are made by "Southern Pro Tackle" Honestly I think they will hit anything!!! Just keep your bait small because there are lots of dinks. At least this way you can hook them up and enjoy the scrappy little dance they perform at the end of your line.

Good Luck!!!

Everyday can call for a new color sometimes , but they will hit many things now . Colors mention should work well .Last year I did great with black color jigs and senkos . If I was fishing texas style I would fish tube jigs , but the grubs should work . Don't be surprised if a big carp picks up your jig .

Also I would try topwater even in late morning . Jitterbugs close to shore line works in the narrows . Try some spinnerblades and you could hook a muskie too . Smallies will be all around the lake and it might be good in the weed beds back in the arms in the wakeless zone too .

Best of luck to you .

hey coot,

i have been up there a few times already. it really doesnt matter what color your using. you just have to move from school to school. i almost always use white curlty tail and a orange white or black jig head and thats it. just need it pretty slow moving and towards the bottom or right over the rocks. i did notice as the days went on they moved out in the water and would like it fast almost like retrieving the curly tail like a spinner. i didnt catch as many but the ones i did catch this way were alot bigger. the ones in the rocks are dinks. but you can catch a million of them. hope this helps.
