Fat Ladies at the Nelle (pix)

Hey guys-

Well, I told a buddy who hasn't been bass fishing about getting lucky with the big fish on Tuesday, and so he made me take him up there last night. We launched our tubes from Rock Cliffs, and headed to my new favorite spot. We fished from 5:30 till dark. He is now addicted to the smallies, same as me.

I got a 21",and two 18" smallies, and a few around 12"-14". One of the 18"ers was a leaper. In-cred-ible. He got a 16" and a lot more in the 12"-14" range, a lot more fish than I did. He had a monster on, but it broke him off just as we got the first "flash" of it flashing around below our tubes. All of ours came on 4" baby Senkos in Watermelon and Smoke w/sparkles. We were in about 10" of water.

If anyone would like to join our next tube trip, please pm me, it's been great actually meeting others from BFT!

Later,

Those are some great fish. What brand and pound test line do you use? I don't what you have planned, but I think I'll be heading to the Rock Cliff area on Saturday morning.

It's great to finally have people ask ME these kind of questions!

The reason I've got those smallies the last few days is plain and simple because of the Senkos. They don't take a ton of skill to fish effectively.

I've been using Stren Magnathin line. I have their 8 lb test, which is the diameter of regular 6 lb test. It supposedly casts better and is more sensitive (important for Senkos). It does have a little more memory, but barely, and it's not that big of a deal.

I like a lighter rod, when I can get away with it. These bigger smallies are a riot on a medium light rod. A light rod would be for the brave! I just have a cheap $30 Gatorback med. light rod. I really like my Symmetre real, it was about $80 at Sportsmans.

The place around here (Utah Valley) that has them is Sportsmans Warehouse. They keep a great selection. They aren't cheap though. About $6.50 for 10 of the little buggers.

There are also some senko imitations at Walmart that are made by a different member of the Yamamoto family (but can't remember his name). I think TubeN2 mentioned it to me. Plus I know I've seen other brands that were senko imitations. They all should work just as good and can be a couple of bucks cheaper per pack too.

Those are Kinami Baits and a small selection can be found at Big K and WalMart. You can pick up a pack of 7 for around $3.

[cool][cool][cool] Wow Nate-

Those are really nice fish! As far as the Kinami brand of Senko-like baits, I've read somewhere that they are made by Gary Yamamoto's son using the same molds as GYB uses for their Senko brand worms. I've not investigated that, so take it for what it may (or may not) be worth. I'm going to fish some of both next week and see if I can tell a difference in results.

Congratulations again on the nice smallmouth.
