Catch a Cure raisies $13,100

From the Salt Lake Tribune fishing column Thursday

Catch a Cure tally

All anglers aspire to be better. Jerry and Carri Schlief feel the same way about the Catch a Cure for Cancer fishing tournament.
The couple achieved their goal again this year, raising $13,100 at the fourth annual bass and walleye tournament used to provide kids with a cancer a chance to attend Camp Hobe.
"It is unbelievable," Jerry Schlief said. "Any time you can exceed last year's total you feel good about it. The anglers just keep helping us raise the bar. We look forward to raising even more next year."
This year's total is $3,000 more than was raised in 2003. The Schliefs and the anglers who support them have handed over more than $35,000 in the four years the tournament has been held.

[#804000]This was my second year at the Catch-A-Cure. HuntN4bass was my partner. We fished in both the walleye and bass divisions. There were just about 50 boats in this year's event, plus Miss Utah participate too![/#804000]

[#804000] After the fishing was done, the rain stopped and a BBQ lunch was provided for the anglers. There were husband/wife, daddy/daughters, sons/fathers,and neighbors teams. A raffle was held after the awards ceremony(yes, HuntN and I won the walleye division-accidently) and a Utah State parks employee won a tv. [/#804000]

[#804000] As usual we had a great time and all winnings were donated back to the kids[cool].[/#804000]

That is awesome! (The $13,100, I mean.)

This was my first year participating in the tournament and it won't be my last. As I was sitting in Tomegun's boat waiting to blast off, I was thinking about how cool it was that we had each given $100 to enter the tournament, and that NOW we even got to go fishing!!!

It was a great time and I'm sure Jerry and Carri Schlief are already coming up with ideas to make the 5th annual tournament even bigger and better. They do a great job and are to be commended for it.
