[cool][blue]That's a "toad" of a frog. Those things will eat anything that doesn't eat them first. Used to actually fish for them with little weedless frog imitations around the farm ponds in California. The big boys would leap onto the artificial and stuff it down their mouth with both front feet. [/blue]
[#0000ff]Also caught quite a few while fishing poppers for bass and bluegill in several states. However, I don't think I have ever seen one taken on a large plug like that. Great picture.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff]Ribbit.[/#0000ff] [signature]

Hey Kent, remember the old bridge at Salem Pond? Well as kids we used to hook a tiny peice of red cloth on and drop our lines down below the bridge. Those old Bullfrogs would jump right up and take the cloth and hook. Them Froglegs is good eatin'! Taste like chicken sticks[laugh]

[cool]Wow, that's a nice frog, but DAMN! That's what I call an extreme close up. My eyes still hurt from looking at that picture.

Wow that thing is huge. My son used to get pretty big ones on a small red bobber at Kaysville ponds, before the improvements. There were some guys fishing there alot that would gladly take all the frogs he caught. Some days that was all he would fish for.

Not sure, but I think Stansbury Lake is only open to fishing to those who live in the development near Tooele. Yes Coldfooter, I remember that bridge. I fished Salem Pond a few times, and did great casting a bubble and fly, but I spent most of my time fishing Spring Lake, because it was a closer ride on my bike.

Great Picture.
That's the coolest thing I've seen in a while now. I've lived in Utah all my life (27 years) and never caught one of those. If you're right and only the locals can fish Stansbury, any idea where else to catch one? [signature]

[cool][blue]Hey Chuck, I'll bet you were fishing for frogs when you accidentally caught that big bass out of there. What was it? !2-8?[/blue]
[#0000ff]I once saw a double on frogs. A guy was tossing a floating Rapala in the shallows and hooked a big bullfrog. Another one jumped in and tried to take away the "morsel", and got hooked on the second set of trebles. What a hoot. The wimp that hooked the frogs was afraid to try to get them off the hooks they were carrying on so much.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff]Also saw a big ol' bullfrog chase down and eat a small garter snake. What a reversal of roles.[/#0000ff] [signature]

I also used to catch giant bullfrogs at kaysville ponds. Some days the bass fishing would be slow and we would switch to froggin. Just look in the moss for them beady eyes and cast that plastic worm next to them, they would always hit it.
My brother was fishing this small secret pond of ours for bluegills, and saw a huge turtle swimming in the water. He casted his jig at it and it bit it, he was fighting the turtle for about two minutes when it snapped his rod and got off. The turtles shell must have been about as round as a tire on a car, and had claws like an inch long. This thing was huge! We went back to the spot to see if we could get him again, but no signs of him since. [signature] |
