Lakers from float tube?

I was just trying to see if I could pick up a few tips on how some of you catch lakers out of a float tube. I've caught a number of lakers out of my float tube but I'm sure there are some things I can improve that will help me catch more fish. I have a few questions and if you have any additional advice I would like to hear it.

Do any of you have any favorite lures you use when jigging for lake trout? (I mostly use 1 oz silver spoons or crocodiles)
How do you select your location? (fish on fish finder, structure, past experience or something else)

What depths do you normally fish?


Do you ever fish specifically for suspended lake trout from your float tube?

Do you carry a large net on your float tube or how do you land the larger fish?

What size of line do you use and do you ever use braided line?

Do you jig strait up and down, do you cast out to the side and jig it back to you or do you let the wind blow you allowing you to slowly troll?

Do you keep the lure close to the bottom and only make smaller jigs or do you lift it 10 or more feet off the bottom and let if fall back down?

Do you get most of your strikes when the lure is falling or when you are pulling it up?

I haven't fished for lake trout from a float tube.but i have caught alot of different species of fish vertical jigging with cast masters and hopkins spoons, as well as large tube jigs. but I do know from my experience you need to keep your line as vertical as possible.to produce the most strikes. A sonar unit will most definitly help in locating fish and structure.I use mostly mono but the braided lines are easier to set the hook with when fishing deep ,they have alot less stretch than mono.I usually jig on the bottom unless I am using sonar an am seeing suspended fish. I hope this helps.

I did try once in my float tube on the only visit I ever made to the Gorge . I even found fish off a hump about 94' down on my fish finder, but no luck . A couple of guys in pontoons with trolling motors that day did better trolling flatfish behind a 2oz. banana weight on 20# mono line . They brought in a 26 # mac , but it was a struggle with the net . They had to hang on to it and troll into shore together holding on to the net . It was a nice fish , wish I would of thought about a camera then .
