I am stupid enough to get out on the ice at Mantua and Hyrum in the winter. When we lived at Delta we would drive 2 and a half hours to Fish Lake to ice fish in Jan and Feb. I do miss the ice fishing at Fish Lake since I moved. There have been times it has scared the #@% out of me, but I still enjoy it. Acey

Got all my ice fishing gear out a couple of weeks ago and gave it a good cleaning. Packed it all up and I'm just waiting for hard water. Days are getting shorter! We're on the down hill side!!

Ice fishing rocks! I love catching a perch on every drop at rockport. There are also some nice trout. Tiger trout through the ice is a riot as well.

Yeah your right it is a little early to ask about ice fishing. But if thats your passion cool. I have ice fished UT. for years, before there was year around fishing and only a few lakes were open for it as a kid. My father had your same passion for it, I can't not remember the name of the lakes or where they were seems like one was close to WY. I also love to ice fish, Three augers 1 power and two hand 8", sleds, many ice poles, a grip of tackle and still wanting new and better gear. I have never fished fish lake on hard or soft water maybe this year on one of your planed trips I will hang out with yews guys. Great Question??

I use a small propane heater and Old Navy flece gloves they work better than any of the several pairs of gloves I have. Also how about those hand warmers (or hand muffs) like the NFL quaterbacks use I don't have one but look like they would work well anybody have one??

I am counting the days til I can get on the hard water. It is my favorite time to fish[what is in a name]. When it comes to gear I am a little spoiled, we have ice tents and heaters. Sometimes we come out of those tents to alot of snow that we didn't even know was there. There was a time when we didn't have the tents and I just about froze my backside off. Still loved it though. We fish Echo alot in the winter, but my favorite place to ice fish is Lost Creek.

Count me in that group. My first ice fishing trip was the BFT party at Rockport. I'm addicted now, and for the first time in years, I'm actually looking forward to cold weather.

One season at a time as long as I get to play all the different seasons. I always look forward to ice season since I don't have a boat and by the end of summer there is so much moss in a lot of places it makes it tough to fish.

Hey mememe,
What I have done to keep my fingers warm since year was to buy one of the $18 or so portable camp stoves that you just hook a little green propane tank to. These are the kind that have the little plastic stand and you can buy them at Wal Mart. I take one of these and put it on a low setting, since the high setting is as much as my gas stove at home. I then set it on the ground between my knees and as I am sitting there in a chair and jigging I just keep my hands above the flames and my hands stay warm. Of course they get cold when I have to get a fish but at least I don't have to constantly fight gloves. Just an idea.

Ahh the hard water, I was just thinking today how much trouble I'm going to get in when go get that new ice shack I've been wanting.

One thing that will keep your fingers warmer is to wear mittens instead of gloves.
