my toon just turned into a registered motorcraft

I went in yesterday to register my pontoon. I guess if you put a trolling motor on it it has to be registered. The lady looked at me like I was crazy for doing it and didn't think you had too, but I read the proclamation and it says you do so I did. I had to etch a vin number on it because it was a non titled craft. Then I had to paint the bow numbers on the front of it. What a pain, but after trolling around on it testing it a couple of weeks ago I love haveing that motor on there to maneuver around, otherwise I am always getting blown around on the lake and not getting anywhere neer enough fishing done,

It is truly unfortunate that there are some extra fees involved just because of a little motor issue. On the other hand, you have a little more convenience and speed on the water.

Good luck out there and keep it at a wakeless speed.[cool]

yea, but it wasn't too bad. The first year cost me 25 bucks amd it will only be 11 bucks from here on out. Oh well such is life they have to pay for the fisheries somehow,

[cool][#0000ff]Considering the great deal you scored on the motor and batteries, I would say the $25 shouldn't have hurt too bad.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]What's next? Twin 250's? Towing a water skier?[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Congrats on putting together a nice craft at a reasonable investment.[/#0000ff]

the twin 250s sound good, but I would rather be fishing than water skiing,

Hey there Jedburton,

I've been thinking about putting a motor on the a hybrid tube and whipped up the two design shown in the attachment in this post.

I'm sure you're happy with what you've done but there is always something new to think about.

I like both of those designs. I just want my motor in front of me so it is easier to maneuver.

Hey there Jedburton,

On the manuvering business, I figured the trolling motor was mostly for forward propulsion mostly with the ability to kick it into reverse to back out of tight spots.

I had kind of figured that with the short length of the tube, one could use flippers to steer to the left or right. A handle extension could be made if the motor was set way back OR you could make a steering pully system like the Hobie kayaks are built. Humm sounds like another illustration in the making! ha ha ha

I see. yea that is how I would use it on a tube, but this is an 11ft pontoon.

you will have to move to michian, you only need it registered if you have a gas motor, {electrics are free to go}
