Condie Reservoir/Strawberry/Mississippi/ Iowa River Report w/ pics
#1
Well, I haven't posted any reports for awhile so I thought I would catch up. I just went to Condie this weekend. The moss is getting pretty thick. We fished mostly top water with pretty good success. I caught this bass with a 7 inch purple worm though. Overall it was a good trip.

My family went out to Nauvoo for a week, so of course I brought a pole. I was planning on trying to get some cats, but didn't have any luck. I found out that they had bass in the mississippi when I was reeling in. I had a 3 inch bright green bobber filled with water about 3 feet from my worm so I could get some better distance when I casted. I was bringing that through some thick moss on by the bank of the river when all of a sudden there was an explosion on the water and my bobber was gone. The bass completely swallowed the bobber. I actually fought it for a few seconds before I got my bobber back. I didn't bring any bass gear on the trip so I rigged a trebble hook onto the bobber and started doing some top water. I only caught 2 small ones, but it was fun anyways. I wish I could have got that first one in.

We spent some time in Iowa city so I tried the Iowa river that goes right through town. I caught 3 beautiful sunfish. A lot brighter than anyone I have ever seen. Then I caught 3 fish that I don't have a clue what they were. I would like to see if someone can identify the Iowa River fish I will post.

Lastly I went to Strawberry about 3 weeks ago. It was slow, but I did manage to get one decent cutt on an olive green bugger with black hackle. Hope everyone enjoys the pics.

Bearclaw is right. Freshwater drum - they are a cousin to redfish.

It's a Drum or a Sheepshead is what we always called them. I was born and raised 30 miles south of Iowa City. Were you fishing below the roller dam? We used to fish there and below the dam in Coralville. Fished for walleye, catfish, and northerns. I was there a month ago but too high of water couldn't fish. TM
