Huntington tiger pics
#1
I haven't posted a report in quite a while, mostly because I have been so busy with work and other less important things that have taken over my fishing time. Last night a friend and I went to Huntington reservoir to float tube for tiger trout. We had a great time and great cooperation from the weather. We each landed about 8 fish and had who knows how many other bites.

We started out in our float tubes on the side of the lake right next to the road and fished from the middle of the lake all the way to the dam. The wind was just enough at first to keep us slowly moving towards the dam at just the right speed to allow the fish to find and demolish our jigs. We were using the Berkley 1 inch power nymphs on small jig heads, as you can see in the pictures. We put a two inch piece of worm on the jigs and the tigers loved it.

The smallest fish caught was mine and it was only about five inches long. It was such a small tiger that I didn't even know I had it on. I also caught the largest tiger which was between 17 and 18 inches and put up a great fight. I did nearly two full circles in my tube before I was able to land this fish. They sure fight a lot better than Scofield's and Strawberry's cuts. All we caught were tiger trout and that is ok because that is what we went after.

A little side note for those interested. While floating around in our tubes we heard an elk bugle three times. We only got sprinkled on with rain a couple of times and it ended up being a great trip. The first picture is of my friend with my first baby tiger of the day. The second and third pictures are of the same tiger with the jig in it's mouth.

Great place to fish. We like to fish Huntington when we go on our annual elk hunt. Fairview and Huntington Canyons are awful pretty in the fall. I think the tiger trout give a great fight. I think it is the German Brown in them. They always roll it seems to try and get free. Nice report...
Fish On!!

[cool]Hey fishluvr, sh....! Don't want to tell the folks about those 1" berkley power nymphs in Crawdad colors or there won't be any left the next time you or I go to sportsmans wherehouse. I probably better not tell these guys that they are KILLER on the ice at Scofield either!!! Woops..[angelic]

Nice Tiger pics.

CBR-- when I read the name of your website I was thinking it was going to be a topless deer or elk site like g.g.w. I was relieved to see it was a clean site. You are welcome to use these pictures on your site. When I was looking at your site it was nice to see some pictures from A.F. canyon of Tibble Fork and Silver Lake Flats. I would fish up there all the time in High School (usually during third and fourth period classes). We only made it up to Silver Lake Flats once in the spring and it was too cold for my wife so we had to get out of our float tubes. I keep telling myself that one day I will hike from Silver Lake Flats up to Silver Lake to fish for some of those beautiful brookies.

Out4trout-- I'm sorry for ruining our secret about the power nymphs. I agree that they do work really well at Scofield through the ice. The first time I used them was last year at Scofield and they were awesome. I also used them through the ice last year at Huntington and they did really well. I used the orange/smoke color with a chartreuse or bright red jig head. My fried was using the greenish/yellow ones this trip and he did better later in the evening.

Coldfooter-- The water temp was 62 degrees. The outside air temperature was less than that when we were in our tubes. I actually put my hand in the water at one time to try to keep it warm. It was warmer than having it out in the open

Luckybob-- I agree 100 percent about them being a better fighting trout. They are better fighters than Strawberry's cut throats any day. I had a couple of these fish jump three to four feet out of the water while they were fighting. One was so close to my tube when he jumped that I got splashed with water when he landed. What a rush.

It definitely is a beautiful area. While up there listening to the elk bugle I also noticed several quakies that are turning yellow already. Fall is nearly here and the elk hunt starts in a week. Yeeeehaaaaw! It means a little less fishing during that time but at least I get out of the cities for a while. Bring it on!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks! Silver Lake sure is good right now. Very active fish.

BTW, Photos have been posted. That profile pic of the Tiger in the net sure is a good one. Those sure are attractive looking trout!
