Great day at willard sat 8-21
#1
Wow what can i say! We got there at 10am sat and the wind was blowing the sky was dark and it looked like it was going to rain all day!But my nephews and niece were exited to go fishing because they never get to go.To start off my wife didnt bring my extra rods so we used they had to use theirs which were lined up with 6lb test .I had a feeling fishing might be either good or horrible so i made sure we brought enough worms so as they could at least catch carp. But to my surprise we only caught 1 carp all day.I carried these blocks over and placed them at the edge of the water so they could put their rods there. Its a good thing those rod holders were there because they would have lost their rods of they were holding them.We started out catching 2 kitties that got them exited. Then i swore i was remembering an outing i had in the ocean in this kind of weather conditions.I saw one of the rod tips being tapped and i told my nephew to get ready that was understatement! That rod was bent so hard i thought it was going to snap luckily they didnt mess with the drag i set.I started coaching him on bringing in the fish and about 10 seconds later the other 3 rods were bent the same way.I thought a school of big carp came by.Oh no there were at least 3 wipers hooked up!I cant beleive how much line they ran off the reels.I stayed with the one kid and tried to coach the others while my wife took pics. That didnt work we lost 3out of 4.The kid i coached was the only wiper caught.I saw 2 of them being brought in but they tried to horse them in and their lines popped.About an hour later the rain came down and the girls went back to the car and i stayed with the boys they were gung ho about staying inb the rain.So we got another school come by and same scenario got them close and they popped their lines. We ended up with 4 cats and a 20 inch wiper! Not a bad day for fishing willard the first time .Oh and we caught all fish on worms!I tried crankbaits soft jigs and not a bite. That wiper had some nice fillets too and was yummy to say the least!I will be back to willard in 2 staurdays becaus e i voluntered to work this coming one.I am hooked on wiper fishing now and i can see why you guys go after them with such a passion! Here are some pics .

Very nice, ocean! Looks like a pretty good time shorefishin for wipers. Pretty soon that will be the only way you can fish for them as the boat harbor sounds like it's prop kill city. Were you using bobbers, or fishin on the bottom for 'em?

Nice report, you sure had a good group of the youngins with you. Because of the way the wipers fight it is hard to use less than 12 lb test if you want to get them in but you can get by with 10 lb test if you keep that drag set loose. I bet it was a full time job helping all those kids. Good to here the worms worked for the wipers. From your pictures it looks like you were along the north dike, did you fish any other areas? WH2

We moved to pelican beach but no luck there. There was a couple using minnows and they only caught kitties.
