Provo River East of Woodland
#1
I fished the Provo above Woodland over the weekend. I used dry flies and nymphs with equal results. Fishing was a lot better than it has been over the last few years up there. The river is so slick that it is hard to stand in the water without falling down. Does anyone know why it is so slippery? I wonder if it has anything to do with all of the homes on the river dumping sewer into it? Do any of you have the same thoughts on the river? DKS

My dad taught me as a kid to river fish and later fly fish on that stretch of the Provo, and as a college student thru 1989 (when I graduated and moved out of state) I used to fish that stretch weekly thru the summer. It has a dear place in my fishing heart, but it was THE SLIPPRIEST @#*&* stretch of river I have ever fished. Dad and I still joke about it. One time I fell in hard and lost my glasses. Another time, I slipped and washed thru a 5-10 yard hole I wanted to fish completely submerged. (higher water than now) We always found a walking stick before we even considered wading. I haven't fished there this year, the "no trespassing" signs on some of the areas I used to fish leave me kind of depressed, but it is good to hear the action is good.

Diamond Fork is also extremely slick like that. I don't think it's sewage of any kind. I think it's the naturally occurring species of algae that grows there. It's just very slick. Be careful when wading.
