I'm thinking about taking a day off of work to head up there and just wondered if any of you have fished up there at all since they opened the river..... I used to fish up there all the time but for some reason have been fishing other spots and hunting a lot during the summer. I plan on heading up there again but just want to know if the fishing is decent in the newly open section or if its not as great as we hoped after three + years of waiting. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Its a hard river to fish cause its got so much water comin' down and its pretty swift. Only fished it once this year and had no trouble finding them with a hopper or caddis pattern, only landed one cause they took it soft or somehow got off. Good luck, I heard they reduced the flows a bit so that should make fishing better and wading easier.

Diamond Fork will no longer be receiving the massive flows that we have seen for so many years. The Syar Tunnel has been extended down to Spanish Fork Canyon--that's what all the constuction was about. Diamond Fork is now fed with constant flows from the old Strawberry Tunnel at the top of Sixth Water Creek. It will basically become like a tailwater. There are some nice fish in there and definitely worth the time. Hoppers have been working well lately. Also, try egg patterns as we get closer to October.

So is the road open all the way to Three Forks ? I haven't been there since the construction . One of my favorite streams but can be tough in that high water . Lots of stoneflies in that water too .

Yeah, I talked to some lady named Karen who was some sort of project coordinator for the Forest Service. I guess they managed the project and she said that it was done in June, or said it would be in June. I called in about April if I remember right. I hope they blow some of those beaver dams in there while they're at it. The flows weren't too bad during the summer as long as they were steady but supposedly now, its going to have a provo like quality to it, or that tailwater effect is what they were shooting for anyway. I've fished up in that area during the construction a couple times.... Oops.... But I did talk to some guy that was like yeah, we don't care if you just leave our stuff alone. Then I also heard that you could get in trouble and on and on. So, I just fished elsewhere. But anyway, I usually fish it with spinners and bass baits/plastics for some of the nice browns in there. I had heard that they were stocking cutts too and I actually caught a couple nice cutts out of the upper river during the construction so hopefully the fishing will be good. I will post on Friday or maybe Thursday night on my trip and how I did. I'll let you all know. Hopefully I don't catch an arrow or something.....

Fished up there in April I think it was. Only caught a few fish, but what I did catch were nice. I think the 17" brown I caught was on a parachute adams. The water was too murky and fast for my tastes, but it sure made landing those trout all the more exciting.

I have never fished or really been up Diamond Fork but that sounds fun. I love to fly fish as well. How big is the river? Is it better to go further up the river or farther down? Good luck on your trip.
