Powell Report, 27th - 29th.
#1
Just got back from a 3 day weekend at Powell but left the camera laying on the kitchen counter. Hopefully, the pictures my friend took turn out so I can share one or two later.

Smallie & Cat fishing:
It was red hot in the Stanton Creek area and most Cats were about 14" although I heard others in that area werent quite as lucky and only caught cats in the 8"-10" class.
Smallies were also hot and I caught lots and LOTS of them but the biggest I caught was only 16".
I camped in an area around from Stanton Creek towards Bullfrog that had a small rocky ledge and I only needed to flip a crawler (no weight) out from blank about 30 - 40 feet and allow it to drift to the bottom (about 12' deep). Most the time it only took 30 seconds before either a cat or smallie grabbed it up and it didnt seen to matter what time of day. If the crawler wasnt grabbed before it hit bottom a couple of turns on the reel handle usually did the trick. I also caught Smallies on jigs & Crankbaits.

Stripers:
I seen very few boils take place and the boils that did happen were at the break of day and shortly after, small, and would only lasted a few minutes. Most of the Striper fishing I did was trolling rattle traps in black or blue backs with silver. There were lots of drift fishermen in our area jigging and tossing spoons now and then but none seem to do as well as we did trolling from the rigger at 35' -60'. Most of the Stripers I boated were 22" - 24" and caught before 9am and suspended off very deep drops. Saturday seemed to be the hottest as far as the Stripers I caught. At one point between 8am - 9am I could barely get the ball back down to 40' before hooking up again yet they wouldnt touch a jig, but HeeeHaw! What a hoot!

The last time I went to Powell was last April and my guess would be its dropped may 12'-15' sense then, maybe more.........

All-n-all it was a great weekend. I had great company and the weather was nice and sunny with highs around 90 with just a light breeze now and then for the most part.. And, while we werent pulling for Stripers or taking a dip, or teasing the smallies and cats, we spend alot of time being lazy under the portable shade.

It was all good,, GOOOOOD!

Sorry, I never drove around to the launch. I took down the 12' on top of my sleeper and merely dropped it in where we camped.

Ocean: Yes you can access good camping spots and the water from a car in the Stanton creek area, just take it easy. I'd suggest arriving during daylight hours if you havent been there so you find your way down to the water easier. If you need more info and/or direactions let me know.
