I was lucky enough to drawout on a limited entry bull elk permit and wanted to catch a few brookies during my Boulder Mountain hunt. I heard DWR was going to poison some lakes this year and was wondering which lakes get the axe and which ones held the bigger fish?

Congratulation on drawing out on the limited entry bull tag. I know Doug Miller did a show about that area earlier this year but I don't remember the different lakes. I'm sure you can call the DWR and they can give you a number of a local agent of the Boulder mountain area. WH2

There are only a couple lakes that are left to be treated on the Boulder. All the others have already been treated, and re-stocked. The two that are left are Fish Creek Res and Beaver Dam. They will not be treated until later this year (after your hunt is over).
There is a big misconception about all the lakes on the Boulders being poisoned to remove brook trout. Truth is, there are only a handfull. I have attached a document that shows which lakes have already been poisoned, which ones have been restocked (and with what), which ones are yet to be restocked, and which ones are yet to be treated.
I also have a document that outlines and explains the Boulder Mountain native trout restoration project. It is a pdf file, however it is too large (1.5mb) to add as an attachment. If anyone would like to see it, let me know and I will email it to you.
Pisces, which part of the mountain will you be hunting? That might determine whether or not you will be able to get into some good fishing...

Thanks for the info. I'll start out on the Aquarius Plateau around Roundy Lake. This is a central location from which I can branch out. Of course I may have to move depending on where I find the elk.

your only real opportunity at nice brook trout will be at Purple. It can be a hard lake to fish in the middle of the day, but early morning and evening can be fantastic.....however, that's when you'll be doing the majority of your hunting...
also try Banana. Rainbows can be a ball there....

When I was a kid, I hiked up to a lake that was located above the Bulberry's. Do any of you know the name of the lake. The hike was close to 5 miles.
Thanks.

Which direction from the Bullberry's?
It could have been any number of lakes: Government, Coleman, Donkey, Solitair, Round, Geen, etc...

If you follow the road past purple and down the hill past blue lake, you will come to two lakes that are very close. One of them is Banana and the other is a small pond just over the hill from banana. Both lakes have fish in them--Banana has rainbows and the other pond (we call it pomegranite) has brook trout and rainbows. They are tons of fun to fish in the fall--the rainbows are stocked as planters in the spring and by this time of the year, they have grown exceptionally well and are very susceptive to just about anything you throw at them.

Don't know what happened there. It should have read. I was up there last weekend. I bet the lake you are talking about is Lost lake. It's about 3.5 miles up. Beautiful lake. Big fish, they just aren't hungry. Saw lots of sign, but no animals.
