mono wheel for pontoon
#1
here are two pics of a mono wheel I made last may ( maybe, this is the first time for posting a pic). I've used this on two toons and works great. It takes less than a minute to install or remove.

Hey there Henerysfork,

Welcome to BFT and the many boards I'm sure you'll visit.

Sweet setup. I did a similar thing with a wheelbarrow that my mom used that didn't ever carry much weight. I extended the back legs so that the bed set level and was ten inches higher than the original. I was lucky that there was wheel clearance on the front.

1 thing I noticed was your use of hose clamps. I use 'em too. How about trying some really neat clampls I found where you could set the 'closed' diameter and use a lever in a 'one-touch' fashion to strap down or release what your putting togeather. It locks on the tension like you see on the fire extinguisher mounting straps.

Saw them in a Wileys (car parts) catalogue I believe! free catalog check them out on the web!

[cool][blue]Good thinking. Kind of a takeoff on the old frames for hauling game out of the hills. I had considered trying to make something like that for carrying my overweight Super Fat Cat. Of course, it does not have the metal frame foot rests, like a pontoon, so that would require more materials and ingenuity. Your design does a great job of capitalizing on the construction of the pontoon craft, with the foot rests. [/blue]

[#0000ff]Question. What do you do with the wheel after you launch? I can see simply putting it back in your vehicle, for use when you get back out. I can also see that you could lash it to the back of your craft, in case you had to transport it a ways from your vehicle.[/#0000ff]

JapanRon,I thought about using the friction type clamps, but the hose clamps and a extra nut driver were just sitting around, I couldn't beat the price [laugh]

TubeDude I am usually able to park with in 150 yards of my launch point. So I wheel the toon down to the water and take the wheel off and put it in my truck. My toon is a Fish Cat Cougar with a weight limit of 350lbs. I'm pushing that right now so I don't need the extra weight.

Hey there Henerysfork,

I hear ya on the price deal. I'm always scrounging too. TubeDudes like that too except he takes all the money he saves and puts it all back in the fantastic lures he designs and makes.

I'm always misplacing stuff as well as having things hide under things, getting in spaces you wouldn't believe, etc. I have teathers for everything. On the hose clamps..... a hole drilled thru the strap and into your axle to allow a single metal screw to secure the clamp to the axle will make it more difficult to lose your clamps in the dark or forget them wherever. Just be sure to position them so that it's an easy one-two motion to slip the clamps over your foot rest pipes.

[cool][#005028]Hi there Henerysfork, Welcome to the BFT. I like it, I like it. Oh I guess I said that already. One of these days I am planning to get myself a toon. Just might steal your idea if you don't mine. Darned if we don't have a lot of creative members around here. Thanks for sharing your creation with us.[/#005028]

I racked my brain to come up with a way to make transporting a toon easier, and I never came close to the simplicity of your design.

Good stuff!

Now all you need to do is put pedals and paddles on the wheel and you can pedal your way around the lake!![Wink]
