There was a layer of ice on the beaver ponds above the Berry a few mornings ago... like the mouse said when he got his tail caught in the trap- "it won't be long now"...

get those auger blades sharpened!

I find it kind of ironic how much I am looking forward to sitting out on the ice, freezing my tail off, whithout catching any fish. Man, I can't wait!

I aint all that antsy about Scofield freezin', its a given its going to freeze and a great spot to start the season, Turkey season that is! Smile
I do on the other hand have my fingers crossed that a certain old fishing hole at UL get solid enough to allow a few eyes can be tapped through the ice..

[cool]Hashbaz, were you just jokin', or do you get skunked a lot on the ice? You were probably just jokin', but if not, you are on the right fishing site to get tips about the hardwater fishing. I got skunked once last year, and that was at the BFT party at Rockport. Of course, having a hundred people all fishin' pretty close together and walking and stomping around on the ice doesn't help much...[Tongue]

Seriously though it was still a great time, and great food, etc. Can't wait to have more BFT gettogethers this year on the ice. If I'm in town, I think I might help organize the first BFT ice party of the year for slimers at Scofield the Saturday after Turkey day, or the Saturday after that.

Yea,... I do get skunked quite a bit. On the ice, off the shore, in my canoe, I get skunked everywhere. I think part of it is I am too patient. I stay in the same place and/or with the same bait/lure too long. The nice thing about getting skunked all the time is you get used to after a while - then with low expectations I am rarely disappointedSmile Even pessimism has a bright side to it!

This winter I want to try new ways of using bobber. It seems more sensitive to strikes and less likely for the fish to feel it.

Good luck all!
