I am not a handy man, but am in need of a rod holder that will mount to my pontoon with ease. I usually take 3-4 rods with me and I have lost a couple because of the lack of a proper holder for the rods.
Any clean-easy home built designs or even ones I could purchase would do. I don't mind spending money since I know it will get its moneys worth of use.

I know what you mean. I've ALMOST lost a couple of poles. I made a couple of holders out of pvc pipe. I just cut a couple of one foot lengths of 1 1/4" pipe and glued them into "T"s. To mount them all I have to do is remove the foot rests and slide them on. Depending on rod size you might want to adjust the size of the pvc. I painted them black to match my frame. I wouldn't go with the 4-way connectors, because the extra plastic hanging down whacks into your leg when you kick.
If you're interested in pics, I can post them or send them later.

Talk to petty, I bought his pontoon from him last year and he has a regular boat rod holder mounted to the pontoon. I think he just drilled some holes and used U bolts for it,

the rod holder jed is talking about is just a single scotty rod holder, if you are looking for one that hold 2-3 rods. go over to the float tube fourm they have lots of ideas, the rod storage racks on my boat are store bought and i have 2 to store 6 rods. i can have 12 rods in my boat with the storage racks 4 pole holders and the 2 downriggers

[cool][#0000ff]Just so's ya know, I have bought and tried almost everything out there, in the eternal quest for the perfect rod holder. The commercially made jobs are designed for mounting on boats, and accomodating rods and reels up to tuna size. I found the deep grooves to be a nuisance when rigged for tubing and wrapped the top with duct tape. Where would we be, without PVC and duct tape? [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]As you will notice in the second pic (ROD RACKS 10) I also took the factory job apart, redrilled the tubes and fitted them for a higher ride above the mounting crossbars. Just cain't leave nuttin' alone. Gotta mess wit it.[/#0000ff]

Excellent. I just placed my order so I should have my rack by next week. I am sure I will be doing the same and raising the rod tubes so they are up and out of the water after I mount this to my toon. Or maybe I will build my casing for my batteries and mount the rack to that. Either way, good info to know, I am sure after I used it for the first time I would have gone the same route, but now I don't have to use the trial/error approach.

[cool][#0000ff]I just PMed you my phone number and address. Feel free to come over and I will help you get everything mounted up. I have lots of bits and pieces in my box of "previous experiments" that might be useful in shortening the cycle. [/#0000ff]

Hey Craig,
I guess this reply is a little too late but if you go down to sportsmans they have some cheaply priced rod holders that would do the job.
