Lake Trout at Bear Lake
#1
Does anyone know how the fishing is right now for macks at Bear Lake. I am trying to decide whether to hunt sage grouse in Wyoming of fish the Bear this weekend. Any information would be appreciated.

The Mack's are starting to stage for their spawn, but are still deep.
Many have been jigging off Guss point and trolling off the East shore with fair results. Use 3"-4" tubes with alittle cisco meat on it. If you do decide to go, I will be at Guss point in my Bayliner hopefully Saturday morning.

Thanks for the info. I have covinced my dad to bring his boat down from Idaho, so I have the boat lined up. Are there any particular jig colors that are producing? I have a small selection, but it always seems like I have everything but the one that I need.

Thanks a lot for the information. I sent my dad to the Sportsman's Warehouse last night with a shopping list. I always love it when someone else is financing my trips! I hope you don't mind my pestering, but are people fishing on the rock pile or off Gus Rich's point? We would like to fish the west side and just want to maximize our chances of hooking some fish. We are relatively new to fishing the Bear - in fact, I have only fished it through the ice on the east side.

i dont judge the pics or anything but heck after some of the winning photos i would think you should have it all in the bag. hey i know i ask you this every year but ill shoot again. is it a good time to take my pontoon up there yet or should i wait a month or so. bear lake that is.

[black]Xman: Wait a month. By the deer hunt things should be prime for spawn fishing.[/black]

Fishdude: You're going to have to go out there and look around. Today there were very few fish in close. There were a lot of fish out past 80 ft and most were suspended between 50 and 70. Use your sonar and put yourself on the fish. No guarantees you'll hook up but it's your best bet.

i can paddle out a little ways but am a bit concerned about the winds that are notorious and blowing the ole pontoon across the lake also. would love to fish deep water in the pontoon though i think that would be a kick.

Hey X, I have gone and done it a number of times off Cisco with the toon. Only done the rockpile once and had other boats out to help if needed. I always take a phone just in case. Let me know when you and TD are heading out and I will meat you. If nothing else I can pull you in with my electric at 1/2 mph.
