Hey guys...
I'm stepping way out on a limb and taking a few 14 & 15 year old scouts to Mirror Lake over the weekend and was hoping that some of you might have a current fishing report from that lake... i.e- quality of fishing? suggested fly of lure to use? etc...
I've always felt that if you can help kids to have good experiences fishing early on, then they will be hooked for life...
We will be using a mix of fly rods and spin rigs from tubes and shore... Any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful and appreciated by me and the youngens'.
Wish me luck. PB

You will catch fish up there. Small Jakes lures or a fly behind a bobber, Mepps spin. Standard worm or salmon egg any way you want to present it to them should do the trick. Have fun, you will get into some fish.

I took the family up near there about a month ago for a few days. There's always plenty of fish to be caught. A good technique for impatient kids is to fish PowerBait below a bubble. Yellow-green sparkle seemed to be the best, though rainbow sparkle also worked well (so did plain salmon eggs). If the kids reel slowly back in the action usually triggers a strike. If your boys aren't catching fish after a half hour, move. If any have fly rods, mosquito patterns always work well on the surface.

i was up there in august a few times. we fish out of a canoe, all we do is just troll a crawler. just cast it out with a little split shot. and whammo. every cast! my father and i caught 30 each in just a couple of hours.

Thanks again guys for the great input... adding sugar to Balls of Fire is a new one an me and one that I'm going to try-
I also plan on dragging worms for those boys with tubes... maybe all that kick paddling will wear them out and keep them from raising he-- all night.
Keep a good thought for me...PB

just a small single hook, and a tiny split shot 14 inches up your line and a 1 inch peice of crawler, kills em! most of the rainbows are about 10 inches with some going as high as 18". and also some big albinos too. and all of the small brookies you can catch.

Hey C-man
How were you using your technique? dragging behind a tube or just letting it set on the bottom?
it sounds effective!
Although sharp things like hooks mixed with teenage boys give me cause for concern...PB

hey... I like that "C-MAN" . any way. i use my float tube, and my canoe. just start paddling backwards in your float tube and cast out, and keep paddlin.just keep your bait moving. that is why i use a tiny split shot, so it wont hit the bottom. you'll catch one on every cast if you can hook them.
