Bear Lake Last Saturday
#1
Fished the area around the Rockpile and Gus Rich's point Saturday. What an absolutely beautiful day! We only picked up one mack (probably around 6 pounds) jigging in what must have been at least 80 feet of water. My fish finder malfunctioned about 30 seconds after I turned it on, so it was hard to tell. Plus we were in a relatively small boat and couldn't control our drift very well (no anchor) so it was difficult to keep the line vertical. We tried trolling with some rapalas and leaded line but didn't have any takers.

We saw several other boats, but we didn't see anyone else pull in any fish. I am hoping to make another trip in the next couple of weeks so hopefully the fishing will pick up. I will stay tuned to the discussion about the float tubing trip. I almost took mine out a couple of weeks ago, but decided it wasn't a good idea by myself. I might consider it if there were several people going.

Me and my boy fished Saturday and Sunday for about 5 hours each day! We jigged from the south end to the marina, to include Guss's point and the Rock pile. We fished from 100' to the shallows with not even a bite!!!!! The Macks are deep and moving alot so trolling with riggers to cover more area is the ticket! I would guess that in about two to three weeks we will see more concentrations of fish. I plan to take the third week of October off to fish the Mack spawn. The general rule is from the start of the deer hunt to the end of the first week of November is the time to get into the spawn. The rest of the fall season is hit or miss but more productive than the warmer months.

I have been trying to get more information about when the spawn takes place but haven't been very successful, so thanks for the info. Unfortunately, I don't own a boat, so I am at the mercy of my brothers and dad who all have boats. They all live in Idaho Falls, but I live in Logan so its hard to get them down here to fish. I'll have to do some arm twisting to get them down again. They are suckers for big macks anyway...

I will be there tubedude!!

If I get my outboard working right (3.9 merc), I can be a safety man with my little aluminum tin can. No high speed runs behind this motor!! LOL

We should post this on the Utah events and get togethers board!
